Destiny 2 will be down for another four hours today as Bungie once again takes the title offline and performs maintenance. This'll be the fourth time that the game has been taken down since it was released on the 6th September, so that's about one round of maintenance per week. These haven't been especially short downtime periods, either -- we've been looking at around three or four hours for each.
Needless to say, some players aren't too happy -- particularly those in Europe, where the downtime has always occurred during prime playing hours. That's the case again today, as Destiny 2 will be offline from 16:00 to 20:00 UK time.
What are your thoughts on these maintenance periods? Does it suck that Europe draws the short straw? Keep things up and running in the comments section below.

I think it's a joke personally. I never used to understand the complaints about online only etc until I experienced first hand that you can't even play single player missions when they take the servers down. And they're doing it every week — this isn't once or twice a year.
They deserve the heat.
@get2sammyb Its one of those things where most companies, games, banks, whatever, do maintenance for short stints, or early hours of the morning on a regional basis if possible.
Hell, I think Nintendo does maintenance every other week but its at early hours or for a short half hour to an hour if unavoidable away from peak times.
My banking app does it between 2am and 4am. My PC is set to do updates when I sleep as is my phone.
So I agree why is Bungie doing this? Its something the rest of the world manages to avoid.
But I think its more inexcusable that it firstly keeps happening, happens at the PS4s biggest markets prime time right after work, less we forget who markets the game, but that it also managed to remove the ability to play at all.
See, if you told me X game with single player stuff was having online maintenance Id be fine because in most cases I can still use the software in some way.
But nope. Western AAA game. Not only are microtransactions perversely littered within, but the entire game is unplayable if Bungie is doing yet more maintenance, the PSN is down, or a tree knocked out your internet.
And thats just wrong. But hey, this is so normalised right now that people are willing to pay well over double the games price for more content they'll be able to use seemingly sporadically.
(Yes the western industry is starting to drive me mad)
I mean, take in these maintenance sessions with the PSN having those brief outages in September and Destiny 2 has been unusable what, 6 or 7 times in a month?
Now I dont know about you but the ancient phrase "If your business is offline for 3 days its hard to recover" comes to mind.
How long will gamers put up with this? The PSN outtages I mean fine you cant exactly schedule those thats just annoyance, but cmon Bungie, youre already making people pay hand over fist for this. Why are you making it unplayable?
That's around 11am-2pm in Washington, where Bungie's studio is. They'd likely have to schedule maintenance between 7am-11am (12:00 to 16:00 UK) to make it better for everyone.
Besides that, it's an MMO. Weekly downtime and no ability to play any part of the game during that time is completely normal.
@BraveFencerZan That doesn't mean its good just because its normal.
Companies screw up and do stuff like this all the time. If I stopped doing business with every company that has wronged I'd be completely isolated and on my own. So a decade or so ago I decided to just accept the fact that every company screws you over, either intentionally or unintentionally at some point, so I would choose to do business with those who apologize the best.
But I haven't seen 1 mea culpa yet from Bungie. People pay $60 for the game, and $60/yr for PSN so they can play this game, yet every week since launch they can't. That's wrong. If they are going to make this game literally unplayable that often it should still be in beta until they figure it out. Or make it free-to-start, then charge people when they play it. Games people pay to play shouldn't have this much downtime without recompense. Not sure what they could offer, but I'm sure they have something.
Bit annoying they are doing it on reset day I guess? Why not yesterday when I had no worthwhile activities left to do for the week.
Still good they are squashing bugs for people too I guess. Plus credit where it's due the servers have been solid in terms of unplanned outages.
@BLP_Software busting chops as usual today huh? Cool, cool.
Edit: @rjejr You're here too!
You two should start your own website, you'd make quite the pair :')
@kyleforrester87 Oh dont worry Ill be banned soon for having an opinion that this is a crap practice and you can all go back to mocking me without me knowing.
@rjejr given this game has DLC as expensive as a gane and microtransactions galore I can see free to start working for them
Meanwhile I'm having fun in the first game
I wish I knew how to post gifs and pics.
@BLP_Software C'mon then show us the real you!!!!
@kyleforrester87 No.
@BLP_Software "free to start"
Destiny 3 marketing slogan -
Destiny 3 is free-to-start, you just have to start on Tuesday!
..what's annoying is a) it's almost like in Eurozone you can only play 6 out of 7 evenings (as one is a write-off) and b) there's zero acknowledgement from Bungie about this... they could easily schedule this earlier as many have said and not alienate an entire continent, but no, 4 weeks in a row (last week it wasn't back up until about 9pmish) they constantly shafted Europe.. it isn't good enough... FORTUNATELY Battlefront 2 is only a month away, and then Destiny 2 gets part-exed for that (in an instant) so only another month of this lunacy to endure...
Im cool with that.
See you after 9pm people!
Nightfall time.
Its really annoying being offline but for an experience as good as Destiny 2, I don't mind that much.
Ive also converted. Playing destiny 2 is so good with friends and randoms Ive forgotten about the unenjoyable single player dross in my collection. Single player games can be good, but theres something more rewarding about Destiny.
Jeez why y'all trip'n? There isn't much to do in D2 anyway... Besides, you all have a whole week before the next reset 😂
@BLP_Software I agree with you, but that's the way these online-dependent games work. Not sure they could separate the singleplayer from their servers even if they wanted to.
...and yet I hear the singleplayer campaign doesnt have matchmaking lol.
The real problem is that this game has crashed on me twice in the last hour... and that's after all the downtime. It seems that every time they take it offline it gets worse. It's a great game but a lot of bugs (particularly crashes) given how much time and money they have had to get it right
It's a real pain. The game is crashing every other time I go to the Tower at the moment? Maintenance seems to create as many issues as it solves for me. I already feel that D2 won't have the content to sustain itself longer term, and this downtime crap doesn't help at all.
I dont mind maintenance but not everyone liveshow in the US Bungie.
@themcnoisy Guess i dont agree in the slighgtest. Destiny 1 was so bad that i found €10 a waste of money for it.
@Flaming_Kaiser crazy talk. Destiny 1 was great. Im unsure who your playing with but its gameplay is sweet and with friends its even better. 10 euros?
