Uh oh, there's going to be some kickback on this one. Supposedly. an official Destiny 2 strategy guide has made it into the wild, and as you'd expect, it reveals loads of information about Bungie's sci-fi sequel. For those wondering, we're having trouble tracking down legitimate sources for this particular story, so we've labelled it as a rumour for now.
Okay, so according to this leaked guide, Destiny 2 actually has fewer main story missions than the first game. The original Destiny shipped with 20, while the sequel comes in at just under that, with 17. Naturally, this potential news has got some onlookers up in arms, especially since Bungie has previously said that the game will expand upon its predecessor in basically every way.
But before we all grab our pitchforks, let's try to take a logical look at this. Destiny 2 may have less story missions overall, but then the hope is that they're much more in-depth than the ones found in Destiny. More cutscenes, more dialogue, that sort of thing. Heck, they might even be a lot longer for all we know.
Still, you can expect to see this story gain momentum over the next couple of days as the inevitable internet outrage spreads.

I'd say I'm grabbing popcorn, but most here seem level-headed enough to not go ballistic about this.
@RedMageLanakyn Yeah, you lot are usually pretty good with stuff like this, unlike most places on the internet...
A lot of things bugged me about Destiny 1 the story been one of them and I've made the what story joke many times but I'm actually confident that D2 will be better content wise, it's just how much better...
I agree with Robert. Definitely a wait and see for me, not that I was crazy about Destiny or anything.
17 main quests is fine, interspersed with strikes, side quests, raids, patrols etc. I'm personally hoping there is at least 30 hours of content before I start repeating stuff over (not that I mind grinding in Destiny). Suppose we'll find out soon.
No destiny 1 only had 8 story missions that needed to be completed to see the end while the other 12 were filler sidequest.
I think we're passed the point pretending Destiny had any story at all.
I mean Destiny 2's saving grace could be gaining a story with a personality instead.
Mission quantity is not important. You could have 40 '10 minute' mini strikes with little dialogue and minimal cut-scenes in between to enable those to be 'reused' as end-game. You could have 20 '30-40min missions' with a lot of cut-scenes etc that advance the story but offer little in game-play and then not great for end game content either - especially if you have to watch the same cut-scenes and dialogue over and over again in the end game.
Point is one may be weak in terms of Story but makes a lot of sense for the end game daily mission content, where as the other works well as a story but the end game missions become tedious and drag on unnecessarily.
Maybe the missions can be 'broken' down into 2 or 3 sections of prolonged game-play which could be used as Daily missions but in between those, we could have more dialogue/cut-scenes and story building which then suits both areas - those looking to play a 'substantial' campaign and enjoy a Story but also then use segments of each for 'end game' content too...
Honestly more of the same is just fine. Like Marshall McLuhan said, the medium is the message....
...but yes, for the rest of the internet beyond the relative tranquility of pushsquare..... /popcorn.
I thought one of the rumors was 50+ hours to grind to the level cap in Destiny 2. Also heard 25 story missions, but also 20+ side quests, 15+ world mission 6 strikes at launch and 10 before the first DLC. None of those stats supposedly include the hidden missions. Hopefully the realize how that lacked in variety in D1....though I still played 3500+ hours. It was always the gameplay that kept me coming back anyway, that and the raids.
For another 40.00 you can get the rest. I guess for you all I should say quid.
I bought the original Destiny with the initial two XPacs and played through all three. I just can't see anything that makes me want to do it again. Maybe down the road there will be a super cheap version with a bunch of stuff, kind of like when the Taken King came out but right now I'm good not investing in Destiny2. Hopefully everyone who is enjoys it though
Since I didn't play Destiny 1 this is not a problem for me! But anyway my decision will come tomorrow when reviews start coming out...less than 8 is a disappointment to be honest, so let's see! If it turns out to be great I might pre order tomorrow
Destiny 2 will be better than one which in itself is a complete beast. One of the best first person shooter ever made. And above all we have three years of complete support. The only thing that bugs in here is the pricey dlc.as always
not worried in the slightest
I hardly ever played missions after I hit the level caps anyway, so it's not a problem for me. The daily heroics hardly ever gave decent loot, and Vanguard points were available elsewhere anyway. It was better to just play strikes, crucible, nightfall etc to get anything.
Oh no did it lose a defend the thing mission or a kill the thing mission?
Non of this matters anyway. Millions of people played the first steaming pile of turd they churned out. Why would they even bother trying to make the second outing any better when people will just take them at there word that this will be superior. Wake me when the next boarderlands drops. It's a far better game.
Quality over quantity is fine by me. The first mission from the beta was more engaging than the entire of the first games story. If the remainder of the game is the same then the number of missions will matter not.
Super excited for release now, just a small mater of 9 hours work to get through before I get to nerd out for a few days
I think I'll go off the guys that has spent two days at Bungie playing Destiny 2, Edge Magazine. (Destiny 2 Brings 80+ Story Missions and Activities)
This is the perfect video if this rumour is true. https://youtu.be/Xgjdsy1MpR0?t=15s

if this is the case then i can't see a problem but if it's not then i can see the fanbase blowing up in their faces
RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE
