Sony Santa Monica’s indie publishing arm has handed off another title to Annapurna Interactive – this time it’s Funomena’s wacky Wattam. Last seen in 2015, many had feared that the Keita Takahashi creation had been cancelled, but instead it’s simply switched publishers and been awarded a 2018 release window.
For those of you who don’t know, the game sees you assume the role of a mayor whose objective is to create colourful explosions in order to attract more people to his town – or something like that. It’s looked brilliant since day one, and we’re glad to learn that it’s alive and well, but it’s a shame to see quirky projects like this removed from Sony’s portfolio.

Holy **** its alive. This sticks in my head as one of the most WTF things that had no explanation or gameplay then vanished.
Yes! Really happy this is still a thing. Love Takahashi's brand of weird and wonderful playgrounds.
Is it still exclusive?
@viciousarcanum Don't think so.
It looks like Sony Santa Monica's indie projects were dissolved into another company. It would explain why Rapture, Edith Finch and Wattam are no longer exclusive.
Two years later the trailer still amazes me. Takahashi is so unbelievably creatieve. I honestly can't wait for this one.
Ha I remember this! Shame that Sony is dropping titles like these.
THANK GOD. Been waiting on this one for years! Can’t wait.
I want Katamari on PS4 !!!
Why would explosions attract people to a town?
