Monkey King: Hero Is Back – the curious collaboration between Sony, Hexa Drive, and October Media – will launch as a PlayStation 4 exclusive in the West as well as Asia, distributor Oasis Games has announced. Billed as the first Chinese AAA title, the release was revealed during the platform holder’s ChinaJoy 2017 press conference recently, and is based on a popular movie with the same name.
This isn’t the first time that the Japanese giant’s made a licensed game inspired by a local property: it developed an adaptation of Bollywood movie Ra.One for the PS3 and PS2 a few years ago, too.

I can't get over how ugly the protagonist's face is... Eyes are too high. Hope the western release stylizes him a bit.
This looks really good, but I hope they change the title. Monkey King: Hero is back?! That's straight up
Google translate.
It's really bugging me haha.
Any word on a release date?
@Fight_Teza_Fight it's what the film was called though
Every time I tell myself that I will be focusing on "X" number of franchises and there's no need to invest more time and money in new franchises, comes a f*&king game that makes me go "You know what? You should add more games to your library, self!"
... I am so screwed. And by "I", I mean my wallet.
@FullbringIchigo Yh I know, but it wouldn't be the first time a title was changed when it came west.
Dragon Quest Heroes 2 is officially called Dragon Quest Heroes 2: Twin King's and the Prophecy's End (dumb I know), but the later part was dropped when it officially came over. Hope that's the case here as well.
Not for me, but it's really cool to see a real, ambitious looking game coming out of China.
@Fight_Teza_Fight Japan seems to have a fondness for long, windy, overly-wordy titles, whereas, in the West, we seem to have a fondness for brevity, almost to the point of being generic. How many movies, books, TV shows, etc. release that have a one word title?
