What the hell is this? We get stick for saying Final Fantasy XV is beyond dumb with its weird service-like downloadable content model, but you can't possibly say that this isn't downright bizarre. The game's partnering with Assassin's Creed to bring us the Assassin's Creed Festival. We're being deadly serious.
Starting on the 31st August - and lasting all the way until the 31st January 2018 - you'll be able to partake in this weird mashup as Noct and the boys try out some sick parkour moves and discover the existence of hoodies. You'll be able to download the event for free from the PlayStation Store.
Okay, so this might actually be quite entertaining, and those costumes are cool, but come on. Come on.

Lol. I kind of hope they keep this up, because the articles on here are getting funnier each time 😂
Hahahahaah why the hell not FFXV was dumb the day they released it.
I'm beginning to feel the same way about FF15 articles as I do when I log on BBC news in the morning to see what Trumps been up to while I've slept.
"ohhh what's it done now!"
Don't forget your inhalers, guys.
Pretty cool to add yet more stuff for free.
@get2sammyb God I love that GIF.
Pretty cool sounding crossover. What's not to like?
I reckon when one of the team has an idea for DLC it goes into the hat and come the board meeting at the end of the month they pick one from it.
what a surprise, FFXV gets a FREE add on that's just for a bit of fun and there is an article saying it's stupid
if they charged us for it i would understand but it's free, FREE so what's the problem, it looks fun and after all games are to have fun why can't they have something that makes no sense?
it actually look good
@FullbringIchigo Prompto says "who needs the power of kings... when you have the power of assassins?" in the trailer. How is that not stupid. It's the stupidest thing I've ever seen in a Final Fantasy game and I played the entire XIII trilogy.
I'm not saying it's bad, but it is undeniably stupid.
Pushsquare has been my main source of game news for years now, so I reckon I can speak my mind here. Please don't get me wrong but I'm starting to feel a little bit annoyed by the way you guys are treating FFXV's post-launch support here at PS. Some developers release broken games and no one blinks an eye. Squenix drops patches and free stuff every other week and everyone loses their minds... I'm not saying FFXV is perfect, but I think Square's post-launch support is at least a good exemple to be followed by other companies.
@ShogunRok oh it's dumb to be sure but why can't we enjoy a bit of dumb every now and then?
Wasn't there some sort of AC crossover with the XIII trilogy too?
@FullbringIchigo Who ever said you can't enjoy it? It's you lot who take offence, we're just poking fun at stuff that we think is completely stupid.
@ShogunRok yeah i get that but it seems nearly every article on FFXV that comes out now a days on here is a negative one, even if it's about an update that fixes something or adds something decent like the off roader
yeah your poking fun at this one but the way it's written reads like your angry about it, it's very stern at least from our point of view if that makes sense?
I think at this point they're doing this stuff just to annoy the Push Square staff
This content would be good if it allowed you to shiv all of the Final Fantasy XV characters.
What kinda of Assassin hangs out with a boy band?
Positive vibes all around eh? I think it's cool. I like to think somewhere in between the lines some producers/designers/director from both teams became great friends and wanted to do some collab to support each other. To call it stupid is kinda immature... Friendship wins.
XD !!!
If they add roaming adamantoises as viewpoints I'm all in!!
Seriously all these updates mean that I will for sure replay FFXV one day despite already getting the platinum. Not many games can say that.
Great news.
Getting tired of the clickbait titles lately. Very tired, tbh.
They could just made it without the Assassin Creed franchise to be honest,it looks and feels out of place in my opinion.
To those defending this DLC, I do get it. It's nice that the game is being supported. But this is Final Fantasy. Arguably once the most important gaming franchise. They should be treating the franchise with care so it can reclaim its throne. Instead they are throwing anything and everything into the mix to see what sticks.
It simply doesn't do the franchises history justice.
Even the biggest FF15 fan must be able to understand that?
Personally I can't stand rubbish like this. I like to come back from work and get lost in a game world that I believe in. Stuff like this just cheapens the whole experience for me and makes my subconscious reject it. Think Inception when they twist the world too much!
Anyway, fair enough it's all good fun and I'm just grumpy. But for me personally it pushes me away from the FF universe.
To everyone defending this as "free" content — it's not, it's a commercial. There's no coincidence in this dropping two months before Ubisoft wants to flog you a major new Assassin's Creed game.
@get2sammyb Do you guys know any more about this than what;'s in the trailer, b/c I have no idea what;s going on. Is it complete do nothing weirdness like the Carnival was, or is it actually like another DLC story chapter in the game? Saw a lot of button prompts so it looks like we'll be playing, but who knows anymore?
And I'm ok w/ it being free marketing for another game, better than being paid marketing for another game.
@rjejr Yeah, and the next Star Wars movie definitely needs to have a 20 minute tribute to the impending Top Gun movie. Would love to see how that would go down with the fans.
At this point, Wolverine has better chances to appear as DLC for FFXV than in Marvel vs Capcom Infinite.
@naruball @FullbringIchigo Would you rather us just put "Gamescom 2017: Final Fantasy XV Is Getting Crossover Assassin's Creed DLC" and then paste the press release like other sites do? Genuine question.
I know this article is snarky but it reflects my feelings on the game at this point. Either I share those feelings or I mute myself and regurgitate a press release with no personality.
Again, though, that's a genuine question. If everyone thinks we're being too opinionated about news then we can take that feedback into account.
@kyleforrester87 "Star Wars movie definitely needs to have a 20 minute tribute to the impending Top Gun movie"
Well some movies that people pay up to $20 per screening for are going to have a commerical before them for Top Gun. This isn't part of the main game. The carnival wasn't part of the main game. There is a big difference between commercials before and after movies and tv shows and being part of the show. They've already stated this will only last between Sept-Jan, it therefore can't be viewed as part of the main game any more than that 1 month long carnival can.
It's a lot easier to not play this then it is to avoid commercials in movie theaters and during tv shows. Even PAID Hulu has commercials. You dont' want to play this part, don't, it won't affect the game any, it isn't part of the game. Nobody made you play in Home when you owned a PS3.
@rjejr Naw I ain't buying it. This kind of stuff dilutes the overall quality of the franchise. Take Vincent, he was a pretty cool character in FF7. He's been as cool as Shadow the Hedgehog since I played Dirge of Cerberus.
Speaking of Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic is another obvious example of a franchise that's not been looked after properly and is worse for wear as a result. Its easy to say ignore the bits that you arnt interested in but as a big fan of the series when it was at its peak this stuff just looks silly.
I made my peace with FF being a bit rubbish these days a long time ago, so either way I'm good. But you have to see why this isn't healthy for FF and it's not going to help them get back to their previous status.
Ok, now they really are desperate. Heck, if this wasn't enough, a mobile version of the game is being developed...with chibi graphics! Geez, and I thought Bethesda milking Skyrim was bad.
I am still waiting for "females pack" DLC.
Free for us but surely Ubi$oft paid a lot for this playable ad. And since Squeenix is still recouping costs they are clearly taking any money they can get.
@get2sammyb Do you have to pay extra to not download it? No? Then it's still free DLC. It may be an ad, or a "commercial", but it is still free. We get that you guys don't like what they're doing with FFXV, but if any of us typed a paragraph like that, we'd be getting chastised for going off topic!
@ShogunRok Having an opinionated piece a couple times is never a bad thing, but my man, we get it, you guys aren't fans of how they're treating the franchise. At this point, you could do a copy paste of the press release and just make links to all the other articles in which you and Sammy have made it known how you feel. Unless you enjoy doing this every single time they drop some DLC? Seems like you don't.
I..... I like it, hard to say that out loud , but yeah , like it
@ShogunRok
I don't always agree with your statements but personally, as long as you keep it professional enough I dont really mind.
But in order to keep it better for everyone, you may objectively report and then state your opinion on the game like you are doing here.
Wow, some people here are pretty sour. Being critical that people who write these articles for you free of charge, because they are being critical of DLC is kind of hypocrite though. No one is forcing you to read the Push Square articles.
It's not just clickbait either. Anyone who visits PS often enough, knows @ShogunRok is just completely honest in his opinion on this DLC. Don't always share the opinion of the staff, but love that they're not afraid to show character.
@ShogunRok maybe "Gamescom 2017: And You Thought Final Fantasy XV Couldn't Get Any Stranger" instead of Stupider would have been better, still keeps a similar tone but it's not as nasty
and it good that your honest about your feelings for the game even if it's not a feeling i share, it sparks debate like we're doing now, it's just the article comes off extremely negative but i don't think that's the tone you was trying to convey
For me personally it's kind of sad how they're cheapening a franchise that I once held in such high regard. I'm happy people are looking forward to this, but it's not for me.
Snake did the outfit way better in MGS4.
@Kidfried @sinalefa @FullbringIchigo @RedMageLanakyn Hmmmm, okay, thanks for the feedback.
I doubt we'll be losing the opinionated angle any time soon but I'll be the first to admit that maybe I do go in a little hard with headlines sometimes - especially if it's something that rubs me the wrong way. Maybe that's something I need to work on.
As for the "Stupider" part, I think that might be a case of crossed wires - at least a little. To me that was just saying it's dumb, but I suppose stupid does sound more aggressive.
Anyway, thanks for the replies. For the record, if it does ever seem like we're arguing with people in the comments section it's because we think we have a point, or we're simply just trying to defend our work. But as long as everyone's being respectful, we fully welcome any criticisms.
@ShogunRok "For the record, if it does ever seem like we're arguing with people in the comments section it's because we think we have a point, or we're simply just trying to defend our work."
and so you should and i try to be respectful, although at times i might get snarky it depends on if i took my meds or not
@ShogunRok "we fully welcome any criticisms"
Definitely need more cowbell, sir.
My god, the hate is real and so is the spite. You are complaining about FREE dlc that has a story, outfits and it's a crossover we've never seen in FF before? Okay, why have fun? Yup your right, dumb fun is just stupid to have? Let's go back to our final fantasy 7 with our horrible main character and moan and cry some more. If your going to write an article about something that's actually NOT BAD, try to keep personal spite away?
Final Fantasy XV is the village bicycle of the video game world. Every franchise gets a ride.
Next I want them all to get Tanuki costumes that allow the boys to super double jump.
@coplanm You're complaining about a FREE site.
I'm 100% with the Push Square Team on this one. I mean, I LOVED FFXV. But really, really loved it. The story (yes!) worked big time for me, i liked this particular angle they went that makes you understand you are seeing only a fragment of ht big puzzle (cause you stay with Noctis and his buddies). The end made me cry. I loved it.
But guys ? This "service-like" following ? It's an absolute nonsense from the beginning to the end. It's like Square is SIGNING, with both hands, to admit that their game was unfinished (we are far beyond simply patching now... God there even are surveys that asks fans wich part of the story they want to be more developped ! I mean... WTF???)
AND THIS ALL CRAP FESTIVAL EVENT THING ? Again ? Like.. a timed event in a SOLO OFFLINE RPG ??
You know what could have, AT LEAST, made a little sense ? To bring this f... Assassin's whatever festival to FF XIV ! FOURTEEN !! You know, their actual MMORPG, which is quite popular by the way, and in which those kinds of events happen all the time ! So why bring Noctis in this story ?
And FFXV Pocket ? And the fishing VR thing ? (Where's my behemot shooter you sold me a year ago, Square ?).
I don't know who takes these stupid decisions at Square. The amount of energy, time and money dedicated non-stop to bring more and more things to FFXV (and who cares if these things are pure nonsense ! It's free ! Tell the people it's free !). Two questions : does everything they did REALLY makes the game BETTER ? Like in... Does the ones who hated it will now love it ? NO. And secondly : does all of that mass patching nonsense makes the game SELL MORE ? Think about it : "wow I didn't buy FFXV cause I didn't care, but now there is an assassin's creed festival and a chapter select ! Instant buy !"
Square, just stop. You need to make ALL OF YOUR GUYS working on your next games... FFXVI, sure, but also KINGDOM HEARTS III. So we can play it before 2025. Thanks.
God. An assasin's cr.... Raaaaaaah. I'm out.
@FullbringIchigo Not going to drop names, but there are definitely some staff over at NL that don't take criticism/debate well at all. Over here, they seem to be more adept at backing up an argument with some intelligence instead of just throwing out some passive aggressive garbage when bring questioned or proven wrong.
@Bobobiwan The problem with complaining about it is that it was very evident before the game even launched that it was going to become a giant billboard to recoup the decade's worth of development and resources poured into this game. Everyone thought it was ok and funny in the beginning, but now people are complaining because their favorite franchise is being "diluted"? The writing was on the wall a long time ago.
I'll be the person who points out there was a 3 hours long parkour dungeon in the game...
"Sillier" would be a less fanbrained word to use, but even then... it's a DLC event completely outside the storyline. If there are still people left who expect these events to wear a straight face even after Chocobo Festival... ¯(ツ)/¯
I love Final Fantasy & Assassins Creed + I'ts free!!! No complaints from me
@Kidfried I am due to being FREE to do so. I like a majority of the reviews on this site however the undying hatred for XV is annoying to read constantly.
I've got no problem with free stuff, they can add as much as they like. I recon we can skip this event and all the costumes just like that. What buggers me though, is that they're obviously putting so much effort into some "stupid" non-FF-esque stuff and then dare to release these half-assed episodes all season pass holders paid for.
@ShogunRok Yes, actually, I'd much rather you did that. Anything is better than the terrible attitude you've been displaying towards this game. It's done for clicks and it's sad.
Also, I find the notion that it's not free because it's a commercial for Assassin's Creed laughable at best.
@Kidfried "It's not just clickbait either. Anyone who visits PS often enough, knows ShogunRok is just completely honest in his opinion on this DLC".
Yes, and I'm sure tabloid writers feel the exact same way. Weak argument is weak. So is calling it hypocritical when they're two completely different things.
I just don't understand why. Yeah, it's free content, so it's not like we're being ripped off, but you have to wonder who any of this stuff is actually for. The game was a shambles when it came out - a shambles I enjoyed, but a shambles nonetheless - and none of this stuff is changing that. All it's doing is adding more nonsensical distractions upon the top of what was already a gigantic, wobbling mass of nonsensical distractions just about held together by bits of a story.
Don't get me wrong - I applaud a developer supporting their game. But in this instance, after ten years, and when the same publisher has much anticipated, long gestating games like Final Fantasy VII Remake and Kingdom Hearts 3 apparently coming out, one day, some time in the future, the resources could perhaps be better spent elsewhere.
@naruball Except it's not done for clicks - it's done because I've got a strong opinion on it. And to me, that's more interesting than pasting a press release.
Is it a headline that gets more clicks? Probably. It's certainly one that gets more comments. But that's not the defined reason for doing it.
I've said this before, but if all we cared about was clicks, you wouldn't even see half the news stories that we post. Or the reviews. So please don't assume that's the case.
no matter what side of the fence you sit on about what Square are doing with FFXV, supporting the game this way with updates and DLC is INFINITELY better than unwanted and unneeded sequels such as XII-2 and Lightning Returns that just muddy up what was a somewhat satisfying yet resolute ending
@FullbringIchigo Yes I agree, but it's still a long way from the way games like The Witcher were supported. I can understand both sides to this.
@ShogunRok Don't let 'em get you down!
@ShogunRok
Well you can claim whatever you want, it doesn't mean it's the truth and it doesn't mean it isn't. Whether it's done for clicks or not, my point is that, to me at least, it comes off this way. The fact that so many people have complained about this and all you've done is write even more controversial headlines is, in my opinion, not the best for the site. We all have opinions. It's how we express them that matters.
Most importantly, there is a massive difference between a bland title and the one this article has. The title can show an opinion without trashing the game and its content ("Assassin's Creed on FFXV? Colour us surprised"). It makes the site look unprofessional and hard to recommend to others.
Just my two cents.
I created an account Just to say this, i think is really valid to have opnion on an article, but you guys must understand that lot of people read news on the site and opnion should be measured with care, people read news on sites they Judge whort of serious information, and see someone just trow a stupid on a game because he doenst like is not that professional. Just saying btw.
Not getting the hate. This sounds fun!
Reminds me of the Assassin outfit you could get in Metal Gear Solid 4.
Anyone over there at Push Square that's actually a fan of FFXV and that can write a positive and informative article detailing this? You know, without ridiculing the game and in doing so, underhandedly ridiculing anyone that may be a fan of it? If it's not for you, it's not for you. But it's not "stupid" content that nobody will enjoy. You're making it seem as if they crossed over with the Saints Row franchise.
yeah, its goofy, but hey- if its just for fun, its optional whether you want to use it or not, and its free - then who cares? Pushsquare- kinda harsh with the XV hate there.
One more comment - just read through the whole community comments here. LOL.. Boy, a lot of hate for PushSquare on this one. Do you do a lot of FFXV hate pieces?? The article seems more to be poking fun at it - which I get - and I think it could have been made to be actually funny and not a hate-on article if you wanted it to be.. but the headline is a pure hate propaganda and "clickbait" for sure. By contrast, other sites have mentioned "Assassins Creed DLC" somewhere in the title - but this one is "Just when you thought FFXV couldnt get any stupider."
...Pure clickbait piece. I agree with the overwhelming consensus of the community. Lets grow up a little shall we?
@kyleforrester87 "dilutes the overall quality of the franchise"
Franchise has been long dead as far as I'm concerned. I bought this game hoping to be proven wrong, that this was going to be a great JRPG game, but it wasn't nearly as good as XCX which I played months before it. And even if I hadn't played XCX before it it still really wasn't that good. Not the worst, but it was lacking.
X-2 started the downhill slide. It was just horrific. Not only as an FF game but as a videogame. Then I played FFCC:TCB on Wii. Man that was horrible. I know it isn't the main series but it was still horrific, and the first 2 words in the title are FF. Then FF12 was a good game, but not a good FF game by any means. FF13 was too annoying. Even the characters in the game knew it was annoying. I didn't even bother w/ 2 or 3. And of course in between all of those they made the online games 11 and 14, which to me diluted and finished off the series. FF was about great single player story games, so making it into an MMO diluted the series about as much as the FF:CC tower defense game.
So no, I don't see this being all that big of a deal as far as the FF brand goes, as that brands day is gone. Long gone. I started my 2nd go 'round w/ gaming in 97, after a 10 year hiatus - and Squaresoft was my go to company, the only one that mattered to me. But they lost it. The PS2 launch title Bouncer was a 20 minute graphics showcase, the beginning of the end for Square where graphics was the all-that-matters focus. So I moved on to Level-5 (console Level-5 games, not the mobile) and Monolith.
As for the future - episodic FF7 Remastered and KH seems to be their focus. I wouldn't be surprised if there was never another good single player JRPG ever again. Doesn't matter how much harm they do to FF, it's dead. Might as well milk the corpse. FF14 has been doing well for years, maybe FF16 will be online as well. Or an online team shooter like Destiny. You think this AC crossover is a bad idea, WTF is up w/ this 1 year late to the party multiplayer mode? What does that have to do with anything?
Washed up. Watered down. Over. Now they're just trying to make a buck. Ubi probably paid them for the x-over. And the more DLC they make, the more they can charge for the complete 4k version on PS5.
sorry for the late reply, catching up w/ emails after vacation
@rjejr lol no probs.
I agree with you, but as a fan I like to think they will one day correct the downward trajectory - I am certain you can understand that thought process.
(Capcom managed it with Resi!)
@kyleforrester87 "I like to think they will one day correct the downward trajectory"
Well that's very optimistic of you. I'm more of a glass 98% empty kind of guy, it happens when you get old and set in your ways, everything new seems like garbage. ie Even if they did make a great FF game again - which I really thought 15 would be - I'm sure I'd hate it. Music, movies, tv, games, everything new suxx. Now I'm not one of those 8-bit retro guys, I hate that too, but I feel like once a company gets as big as Squenix the creativity takes a big seat to $. It would take a new company making a new game to make it good. I wasn't a big fan of Yooka-Laylee either, though I really wanted to be.
I suppose it could happen, but I think they'd need all new blood, like Nintendo had a hit w/ Spaltoon, but that game wasn't made by their usual crowd. FFXV took 10 years, and this is what we got. Though I suppose Nintendo also gave us Zelda BotW, so who knows, maybe someday. Big maybe.
