New Dragon Ball FighterZ details have emerged from the latest issue of Japanese magazine Weekly Jump, confirming that the upcoming brawler will have a story mode. That news comes as no huge surprise, but we have to say that it sounds promising. The publication describes said story mode as "a new story for Goku and friends depicted in high-end animation". Seeing as the title is running on the same impressive engine as the Guilty Gear Xrd games, we imagine that this means we'll be treated to a gorgeous looking and original Dragon Ball tale.
Meanwhile, V-Jump magazine reveals a couple of new characters. For starters, both Android 16 and Android 18 will be joining the playable roster. Android 17 will be present as well, but as far as we know, only as part of one of his sister's special attacks.
On top of that, Super Saiyan Blue Goku is playable, as is Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta. It's unclear whether these two will actually be individual characters or if they'll appear as transformations, but we guess it's the former.
And last but not least, Dragon Ball FighterZ will apparently have a party battle mode where players can team up and each control a separate character in standard three-on-three bouts. That sounds kind of cool.

I feel sorry for MvC Infinite
I hope there's proper arcade mode with different opening and ending for each characters.
@wiiware Otherwise i can not call it a real arcade mode.
I haven't seen him listed anywhere but have they added Broly yet?
@wiiware I doubt there'll be arcade endings for each character. If it's anything like the Guilty Gear Xrd games, we'll get a story mode and a standard arcade mode. Plus, with it being a licensed title, I can't see them putting too much effort into making individual developments for each character to follow. Be nice if they did, though.
@vegeta11 Not yet, but I think he probably seems likely.
@vegeta11 Maybe they'll add in the God Broly from the new movie? One can dream. Either way this looks like a solid buy for me, love a good 2D DBZ game.
@ShogunRok But guilty gear xrd has real arcade mode, with different final boss and ending for each character. That's what I want.
@wiiware Does it? I'm not sure what I'm thinking of, then (and I reviewed Rev 2!)
Still though, I'm just not sure if they'd bother working arcade stories into a licensed game. I guess it depends on how deep they go with the original plot in the story mode?
@ShogunRok I can imagine lots of what ifs. The last Arc Sys DBZ game on the 3DS had a bunch of non-canon stories and the like to mess around with.
@ShogunRok I play as sol in guilty gear xrd and get ramlethal as a final bos. I don't know about other character or xrd sequel, but in xrd the game recommend playing arcade mode before watching the 4 hour anime story.
For fighting game I like arcade mode more than story, unless it's netherrealm studios games, their story mode is great.
The best is mkx though, they had proper canon story mode and "what if" scenario for arcade mode, with proper ending for all characters.
@wiiware @Cassetticons Yeah you're both right, what if scenarios are usually a good way to go with licensed games. It sounds like the story mode is going to have an original plot anyway, so I'm curious as to what they'll come up with.
@ShogunRok This may be self serving but I feel the wrong Saiyan got featured in that image.
@vegeta11 When we get the inevitable trailer for blue Goku and Vegeta I'll try and remember to lead with the Prince of Saiyans!
I really hope Mystic Gohan is going to be in it
