I thought it was really good overall. I was just hoping for a few more big surprises.
No new announcements that interested me... Actually, were there any?
The Spider-Man gameplay was amazing, spectacular, sensational. Such a shame it's next year and not this year.
I liked it. I'm pretty sure the only way I wouldn't have liked it is if they only showed VR stuff for the whole hour since I have no interest in it.
No, it was a lot of games but i only remember SOTC... and some VR games. But God of war , days gone and spiderman were already announced.. Shame there was no suckerpunch...
I'm beyond disappointed no From Soft games were there.
All stuff we knew about minus Monster Hunter, which looks eh to series fans, SOTC which is a remake NEXT year, and some Horizon DLC.
But notice this again. Stuff we already knew about. Still NEXT year.
Super meh!
I was satisfied with the amount of exclusives they showed. I feel like they normally have more third party games than they did this year, so it was a nice for a grump like me who always complains about that. I also enjoyed the fact that they went from game to game with little filler in between.
The biggest negative for me was that we already knew about most of what was shown. I was hoping for some more new announcements.
Overall Sony delivered a good conference, but I'm not sure I'd say they "crushed" the competition.
I'm a sony fan, but man that felt really disappointing with a lack of new stuff to see. Also there was a couple games with WAY too much QTE's.
A few pleasant surprises, but there were just as many disappointments. Mostly good, but they didn't have the element of surprise like last year.
Well, first, achieved the goal of showing the games that are coming, and that is the important!
and well, for me, 1 or 2 games appeal me for now, but well, maybe more next time (or very soon).
No hype at all
A big meh from me. It's all next year, and unfortunately knowing sony's track record, it could be much later next year.
People expected the moon after last year. I think it was a solid show.
@BLP_Software first time i agree with you.. Wow, revelation
What they showed was cool, but mostly stuff we knew about. Pretty gutted there were no significant new announcements, I was so ready for Bloodborne 2 and the Sucker Punch game. Overall, mildly disappointed, but a decent showing.
The pre show had more games I'm interested in. Too many lenear action/movie/action/movie games it seems in the presentation.
A good conference overall, just lacked that special something. I mean, great games were shown and all, it's just that a few months from now I won't remember much of it. Maybe they missed the chance to show something new.
I'm looking forward to Detroit, Spiderman and God of War, though. =)
P.S: Maybe I missed the news, but did you guys see that SE posted a new trailer for KH3 a couple days ago? =)
It was a conference of consolidation rather then mind blowing announcements. Spiderman looked awesome but glad it's skipping 2017, though not sure what to think of a Miles Spiderman.
I thought it was meh, for two reasons.
A) THey should've opened with Spidey and finish with Uncharted or something else. Waiting to see Spider-Man gameplay seriously undermined all other reveals for me.
B) I didn't see an announcement that wasn't leaked beforehand. Monster Hunter, Shadow of the Colossus ... all these were leaked and hinted at, so I wasn't blown out of my mind when I saw them.
And man, while I love the lighting of modern gaming - ENB -, it does make many games look similar. Heavy use of UE4 also helps on that front.
Anyways, it was solid, and yet undermining. Don't really know why. I saw tons of gameplay, and I still wasn't blown out of my mind. Dragon Ball FIghterZ was more hype for me than the entire PS conference altogether - it's crazy.
I think if Monster Hunter, Shadow of the Colossus and Dragon Ball FighterZ (don't care it wasn't on PS4 E3) weren't leaked, and if Spider-Man was the first trailer they opened with, I would have a more positive outlook.
I'm not really disappointed, I'm just not blown out of my mind.
It's good but not as great as previous year. I wish sotc remake is this year, gow looks good, and spidey looks really good. I'm more hyped for spidey compared to gow now, still get both though
Good conference, personally I'm hyped for Monster Hunter, Horizon, Uncharted and Spider-Man.
Monster Hunter Worlds looks good and the overall presentation was great but really aside of monster hunter and Shadow of Collosus remake it was really meh. No Final Fantasy 7 update, Days Gone, The Last of Us and nothing From Software.
The only new item that I wanted was Horizon:ZD add-on. Everything else was shown last year - Uncharted, Days Gone, Spider-Man, God of War - all the 'highlights' from E3 2016!! - most still not coming until 2018...
No Sucker-Punch, another 'remaster', VR games for the select few that have VR and nothing much to encourage me to buy VR, Destiny and CoD, Detroit does Watchdogs...
So no it wasn't great.
Yes the games like Spider-man, Days Gone etc looked good but they looked good last year. Last years was stronger, better delivered and had much more of a 'WOW' factor - over and over again... All killer, no filler. This year was bookended by good games but the middle was 'dull' and drawn out - even though it was only an hour. When it ended, I was left feeling - is that it??? Never a good sign!
Two jaw dropping moments - the surprise of skyrim vr and Spider-Man.
Loved it. The only thing that was seriously lacking was no sucker punch.
Guys, if you were expecting ff7 remake from this, you're crazy. They just said in the next three years, and it's clear that kingdom hearts is coming along sooner. It is probably 2019 at this point knowing square.
Very disappointed. No big surprises, and soo many games are next year.
Not bad, but I expected more, to be honest.
@BAMozzy yeah it did feel a little short at the end. Perfect pacing except the sudden conclusion. My friend just asked me if there was another hour and I said probably 30-40 minutes. But that was right before Spider-Man.
Solid Conference but lacked the impact of really big surprises! Also 2018 only games it seems
Anyway I can safely say Sony had a better conference overalll
I skipped the rest of the conference after seeing Monster Hunter World. Yeah, I was that happy!
It does look similar to PC's Monster Hunter Online, though, since the camera is zoomed in more.
@Sanquine I just thought, what do they have for this holiday beyond CoD?
Definitely good rather than great. Lots of stand outs though: Uncharted, Days Gone, Detroit, Shadow of the Colossus, Spider-Man, God of War, and the Horizon expansion in particular.
Just mainly lacking release dates and 2017 releases in my view.
I'd say it was better than the competition to this point (not very hard to do considering those all were weak as well) but still very much meh. I had hoped for more new game announcements, particularly from Japanese companies after Layden's recent comments. Also concerned that everything from Sony itself is becoming 'Naughty Dogged.' Again, I love that studio but variety is the spice of life. God of War does not look like God of War at all and that's not what it needed to evolve into. Bend should be making Syphon Filter PS4 instead of a TLoU clone and David Cage's games are just simply not for me. So unlike the last two years of Sony E3 I couldn't really get into this one. There were some highlights though, I LOVE Uncharted: Chloe kicks some ass Edition, hyped for the Horizon DLC and Spider-Man looked brilliant. If it has some more set pieces like that with an interesting story and the typical Insomniac humor and style it will be one of 2018's best, if not the best of that year. Monster Hunter did look cool I just worry it will be dumbed down but I'm going to hope for the best. MvC Infinite is on my radar thanks to what could be a fun story mode.
Oh well, onto Nintendo tomorrow. Not expecting much to be honest but Super Mario Odyssey should be awesome so I can't wait to learn more about it.
Nothing big and new but Shadow of the Colossus and that was brief, seconds. Days gone was the best thing shown.
@BLP_Software I saw that on Nlife:P Yeah, a big problem.. But good for my wallet though.. Have to buy a switch
A shame that Sucker Punch didn't show up, but overall I think Sony delivered another decent conference this year. God of War, Uncharted, and Spider-Man look really good, Shadow of the Colossus was a nice surprise, and I'm really pleased we saw a handful of cool VR games.
Conference was definitely up there with Ubisoft for me, though I'd have to give the edge to Sony for the sheer pace and pizazz of the conference itself. Top notch.
I think it was a good one, but obviously not as strong as we've become accustomed to these past few years. Which is natural.
The content they're making in-house is on another level, though.
I feel that having every game we knew was coming out wasnt a great show. Spiderman was seriously a bunch of qte events with probably small linear areas where to do stealth. This was nothing compared to revealing ff7 remake and shenmue 3. There was so much magic that year
Ah, literally the only thing I was hoping for was a new trailer for The Last of Us II. So it was meh for me...
@Sanquine
No Sucker Punch was a disappointment. As somebody had mentioned in the live chat though, maybe Sony decided, after MS' show wasn't overly impressive, to hold back for PS Experience. I hope that's the case, PS Experience has turned into a huge event, especially for those of us who love PlayStation, so it's very possible.
It was meh for me, Spiderman game play looked great can wait for that. But E3 in all was pretty meh..
Spiderman far too much like Batman in terms of combat, most of this we already saw last year. No Souls game, no Shenmue, ugh. Ubi and even EA was better.
It was solid and with a lot of real exclusives even if we haven't heard the word exclusive every other minute. Not many surprises but SOTC and MH were huge for me.
@Dakt For real but thats n Square Enix for announcing games a decade early again.
FFXV VR Fishing looked good...
Many great games, but no wow factor. Still the best of all showings. Also liked the format with little talking and going from game to game
None of major titles release in Holiday 2017
Spiderman 1886
I was really hoping for a big announcement from sucker Punch. Please don't hate me but I kind of felt meh about God of War. It looked a little rough to be honest. Glad they are only bringing it out next year. Was there a date for days gone or even the pre show GT Sport?
No-one has been "crushed", i've enjoyed every conference so far, seen games i want from every company, this has been a good E3 for the industry, lots of high quality games in a variety of genres, and we still haven't seen what Nintendo has to offer yet, if i had to pick one 'winner' so far then it is Ubisoft purely for revealing Beyond Good and Evil 2, a game i've waited a very long time for, can't wait for Ninty's show now, we should all celebrate the healthy state the industry is in right now, rather than trying to pick sides.
@Giygas_95 they might do that a psx
Good show. I understand that Sony has 3 conferences a year to cater to, but the show really missed that new blockbuster announcement.
There's still alot of games that I want, but most are either VR games or previously revealed games.
Spidey, GoW, Detroit and Days Gone all look incredible though- just oozes class.
Can't wait for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and Horizon DLC!
For me still the best show of the week. Games, Games, Games and more Games with 5 mins of Shawn Layden.
Nope
Not good, that was not poor , but not really good. Why just one hour?!
Where is The last of us game play? Where is blood born 2? Where is sucker punch IP?! What we should play on 2017?!!! Even days gone is not coming in 2017!
They said we support jpan games, where was that? Is that a E3 we want? Nope!
I think i should just stop playing games , i don't see a reason to continue gaming
The question is , why sony did it like this? Remember last year , that's what im talking about! Thats E3 ! Not this...
I thought it was disappointing. The games on show were good, but we knew about most of them already. The show lacked abit of energy; not helped by the sound issues lasting into the days gone trailer, which seemed to leave the show a little flat. And I dont know, it all lacked a little bit of energy and pizzaz. Sony could, and should have had a longer show. An hour just felt too short. Why were gt sport and crash and knack in the pre-show? Why not take the opportunity to show ni no kuni and a few more games coming in 2017 if GOW and spidey are not coming till 2018? Where was Dreams, where were Sucker Punch? Dragon Quest?
The lack of the last of us 2 was no surprise. In fact id be amazed if we see it again before days gone is released. Would have liked to have seen something from Square on the final fantasy 7 remake - but guessing from everything we are hearing, it is a long way off.
Sony missed an opportunity to drop price of pro following xbox one x price reveal; but I guess they feel they dont need to at this point.
Positives? GOW continues to look great, uncharted ahould be a fun experience and spidey is shaping up very well. Look forward to seeing more of Detroit. Did I miss a release date for that one?
Overall, the show gets a 6/10 for me.
Not good at all. I was really hoping God of War would be more fast-paced action instead of a naughty dog clone. Way too many QTE's in games, Vr had nothing noteworthy. Not alot new except a remake. Microsoft had a better presentation.
Dragon quest 12 would have been awesome. Need a really good rpg without the "get a skill point every level up" type of "rpg"
Sorry. 11
Was very impressed with Spider-man's gameplay as well.
I enjoyed it a lot, but was maybe expecting a few more new reveals? Everything we did see was fantastic, though. As much as it pains me, I have to give it to Ubisoft so far this year - purely because of the new stuff they showed off.
Worst one in years. Very disappointing. Found myself saying "that's it?" after the presentation ended. The crowd was dead. Still looking forward to the games coming of course.
Unless Nintendo comes out swinging in their 25 minute presentation tomorrow, I think Ubisoft won this year. Can't believe I just said that.
@get2sammyb I agree. I just can't describe how crushed I was not to see Bloodborne 2 or anything from From. I was sure they'd have it, and that was literally the only thing I really cared about. I suppose here's hoping it'll get announced later in the week or at PSX.
Sony gets a Buffering/10 this year.
Dry as hell. You know if they were just gonna show the same **** from last year they could have atleast stamped dates on all these. I know GOW is early 2018, but Days Gone...nothing, Detroit...nothing, Spiderman...2018. Microsoft definitely won this year.
@CB7Tuner91 Watch the language please.
Rock solid conference, but very few surprises.
Solid overall, but I was hoping at least one new exclusive announcement but left with disappointment.
Is Dreams even a game anymore? We actually saw it before the PS4 when it wasn't named, just a marionette sculpting thing.
And Last of Us 2? Highlight of last year then poof
I don't think every game needs to come out with only 5 minutes notice, but if you show a game at E3, by the next E3 it should have an actual date, not just the next year. It's like every game takes 2 years now, that's too long too often.
My highlight was NNK2, but I think that was before the event.
There were no "megatons", but with TGS and PSX, maybe Gamescon or Paris Games Week, they need to space it out. Seeing actual gameplay on a number of games was very nice (GOW/DG/SM), but we're still dealing with launch windows, not dates. The absence of Media Molecule (Dreams), Sucker Punch and the rumored From Software collaboration was disappointing. Monster Hunter was a nice reveal, but it's multiplat.
Speaking of Dreams...has this officially gone into development hell? Where is MM this gen? Tearaway Unfolded was their last release in 2015.
EDIT: I did appreciate the PSVR showcase. I will most likely own all of those...especially the Supermassive games.
I don't really mind that most of the games shown are coming next year (2018 isn't as far off as it sounds) Sony's been having a great year, they still have a solid lineup of exclusives for the rest of 2017, and it's nice to know that 2018's already looking so awesome.
Again, my biggest issue was the lack of any big surprises. (though I'm psyched as hell for the SotC remake). But then again, Sony doesn't need E3 as badly as they used to. They still have TGS and PSX to give us more announcements.
@Enuo
"(2018 isn't as far off as it sounds)"
6 months. It will be here before you know it. And we have Gran Turismo Sport, Knack 2, Hellblade, and Everybody's Golf adding to the awesome 2017 lineup.
EDIT: Thanks to @Mr_Alejo for reminding me that Ni no Kuni 2 is coming this year as well. Anyone that scoffs at PS4 2017 is delusional.
very poor conference. see, that's what happens when they don't show games that won't be out for 10 years. it all comes apart. and most of what they did show wasn't even 2017!
In order to appreciate it you had to take a look at the pre-conference.
Gran Turismo, Ni no Ku ni 2 and Knack 2 are coming this year too..
Remember, we still need surprises for the PSX in december!!
@manu0
When was Crackdown announced? (E3 2014)
When was Sea of Thieves announced? (E3 2015)
When was Cuphead announced? (E3 2014)
When was Phantum Dust announced? (It was cancelled and turned into a remaster - E3 2014)
When was Scalebound announced? (Another cancellation - E3 2014)
So...here we are. E3 2017. And only a remaster of a cancelled game has been released. Crackdown? Sea of Thieves? Cuphead? Scalebound? Maybe by 2020. If they don't get cancelled. (Oops. Scalebound was.)
And welcome to 2017. Horizon. Nier. Nioh. Persona. Gravity Rush. Yakuza. The Show.
Coming 2017: Gran Turismo Sport, Knack 2, Hellblade, Ni no Kuni 2, and Everybody's Golf.
Unless you're a 100% die hard Real Time Strategy fan, there is no competition.
Underwhelming but the truth is the only one that excited me a little was the bethsoft one I'm eager to try wolfenstein 2 and the dishonoured spinoff. Oh and A firm release date for cuphead was exciting.
Not a lot left me interested. I mean, I'm interested in that new Spiderman game, but at the same time I need to hear more info about it before I put it on my list of preorders. And I honestly don't know if I really want to double dip on Undertale...
This presentation left me meh.
it was good only for the games but not good for the great games coming out next yr. Spiderman is the game of the show for me then GOW4 then days gone then detroit become human. Knack 2 should be much better than original.
I almost wanted to give sony a MEH survey reaction cause the audio was f up for the first 10 mins and Sucker punch is no where to be seen. Sony also makes no sense not putting knack 2 and GT sports in their conference. The damn conference was already to short so they might as well advertise all their exclusives on during their conference. GT sports will get slaughtered against all the other driving games coming out this yr. But it still should pretend to be confident and give a exact date which means its possible this damn game can get delayed again. Polyphony are the most f up developers for sony.
@lacerz technically hellblade nor ni no kuni are exclusives since they are going to be on PC. So that means Xbox doesnt have any exclusives since all their games will be on PC.
@CB7Tuner91 MIcrosoft won with what? Crapdown, State of trash? Cup head is the only game worth mentioning. Xbox X cost too much without any AAA exclusives worth buying the new console. I need to give you some smelling salt.
Personally I was still hyped even with basically no new games announced.
I'm looking forward to playing Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Knack II, Undertale, Shadow of the Colossus (Remake), Monster Hunter World, God of War PS4, Insomniac Spider-Man, Horizon: Zero Dawn : The Frozen Wilds DLC, Detroit: Become Human, Days Gone, and Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom.
Simply put...YES!
@lacerz Actually Cuphead is out 29th September and Crackdown 3 is out 7th November both this year. At least Xbox have some exclusives coming out this year. Don't mention they are also on PC that's irrelevant to me and others who have no interest in PCs.
Plenty of VR goodies, so was good for me
Shouldn't have said it. Sony thought they only had to show up, and that's what they did.
With how bad Microsoft was and the non-event that Nintendo is, Sony still did relatively well, but Ubisoft really showed how it's done.
I found it pretty disappointing to be honest. Nothing that wasn't already known. I had expected at least one new IP. Also, why no new Last of us 2 trailer? Nothing about PS4 PRO. With Microsofts lackluster showing, Sony had a great chance of 'nobbling' the Scorpio before it gets going. In my view they failed to do this and may come to regret it later.
@lacerz i never said microsoft's was better lol
I don't know why I'm even doing this...but here we go.
As far as games go, and that's what it's ultimately about, yes Playstation has more games that I want to play than Xbox. Also, if playstation snapped Monster Hunter away from Nintendo then that's another win for their system. I know Nintendo is also getting another Monster Hunter but it's more of a compilation than a new iteration of the series.
As for actual shows, I thought Xbox's show was better as far as entertainment goes. Also, Xbox's show had no technical hiccups like the Playstation's did with the poor audio for the first 12 minutes of the show. The Nintendo Direct has not run yet. We'll see if they can steal E3.
It was weak, but come on! After two wonderful years this is just expected.
I thought the whole lot was a bit tame this year. I only watched the Ubi and Sony events, as they were all that interested me.
I was really disappointed with the Ubi one. I already knew about FC5 and was happy to see a bit more of that, but nothing else they showed interested me, so it was all a bit 'meh'.
Sony's was solid, with minimal chat and lots of games - but there were no major new titles, just more footage of games announced last year and yet to be released. The VR stuff was new, but I don't have a PSVR so it's all irrelevant to me.
Sony's wasn't amazing, but it was refreshingly to the point, in its "just getting on with it" attitude. Not mindblowing by a long shot, just games and updates for games, personally i'm weirdly pleased that its been quiet, gives me chances to catch up on the backlog for this year alone...
I think, anyone expecting this one to top or at least equal the last couple of years will have been disappointed, but there is some interesting stuff coming, albeit later or next year.
Did love Devolver Digital's show, reminded me of a Troma film in its oddness and delivery....
@MaccaMUFC
Yeah, PS4 has had nothing year. Oh wait....
It was decent but pretty disappointing how virtually nothing new was shown. Quite concerned at how long Dreams and Sucker Punch have been absent for.
Meh. Spider-Man looks pretty awesome, but there was little else that interested me. I hadn't seen any of the games before, but it all just feels like more of the same. Still don't see much reason to own a PS4.
Just watched the conference now. Looked like everything they showed would be released before next e3? Is this a new plan for them? Im ok with anouncements a couple of years off (2-3 max) for that wow factor if so... They should have shown something new. Even just "suckerpunch" the "game title" then like one screenshot would have done it for me.
Still I was happy with the conference I just feel that everytime they could put the nail in xbox's coffin they hold back... I just dont get it. Then you have to listen to idiots who say multiplats are going to sell better on xbox because of a system thats not even released yet...
It was a good show. Not their best but certainly not a bad conference. It didn't have the pizzazz of the last two but there were some good announcements. It was great to see more of Detroit especially.
