Ubisoft has shown off a new cinematic trailer and the first gameplay of the sequel to its online multiplayer racing game, The Crew. It seems that they'll be upping the ante this time around, however, as you'll not only be competing on land, but also in the water and in the sky.
The gameplay teaser shows off a little of each, with street cars, stunt planes, and speedboats haring across America.
The Crew 2 launches in early 2018, but you can get your hands on it sooner if you register for the beta.

A playground but seemed somewhat 'dull' compared to NFS with its Story. Looked good but I wonder how long before I got bored...
@BAMozzy I agree with you. NFS Payback looks much better because it takes itself way less seriously. Don't forget the first one was mediocre.
@SPGFan34 So? The point is that NFS looks to have a story as well as the open-world to explore, find relics, find events to participate in etc. This looked nothing more than 'race' or just drive around in a car, plane, boat or bike for no real reason other than 'you can'. The first 'Crew' was poor too so both need to come back strong which won't be easy after Forza Horizon 3 set a high bar. NFS at least looks like its trying to build in a narrative and going for the 'cinematic' approach to key moments to add in something more. It looks like it could hold my interest for a lot longer...
But can you use the G29 this time? The amount of racers that don't support steering wheels this generation is ridiculous.
@BAMozzy Sorry for the slow reply. I've been working on exams and assessments at sixth form. Anyways, I completely agree with you. The first Crew was pretty mediocre, the story and dialogue were horrific and it didn't do anything at all memorable for me. The idea of multiple vehicles kind of gives me Steep vibes, which is a great game by the way. I wonder if you can switch them off the fly. I really enjoyed the 2015 version of Need For Speed because it's live-action cutscenes were actually pretty decent and the underground, urban vibe was a great landscape. Payback looks a bit different, but I definitely agree with you that it has more oompth and ambition. Mind you, you never know about Crew 2, it might end up being a really good sequel like AC2 or TF2. I'd still advise you to give it an open mind until previews start coming out.
@SPGFan34 I hadn't dismissed the Crew 2 but I haven't added it to my wanted list either. The reveal looked impressive - visually but the game-play looked 'empty'. By that I mean it lacked soul and to a degree substance. I am not talking about the amount of vehicles you could potentially drive but the context and why. It went from driving a car down a road, to flying a plane in the sky, to piloting a boat on a river, to riding a bike on dirt and flicking between each. If it's a racing game, GT, Forza, Project Cars and Dirt for example all make that seem far more exciting, far more purposeful. NFS:Payback gave us a look at the Story and context to game-play. You are racing along a road to hijack a lorry and others are trying to stop you - context, reason, objective and purpose. The Crew could just be about driving a vehicle around fast for the hell of it for all I know. It seemed to be saying 'we have a world with vehicles that you can drive if you want to' No context, no reason, no objective and no purpose - at least in the trailer...
@BAMozzy Hi there, yeah i completely agree with your comment. I still think Crew 2 has potential, but i'm still not sure if there will be any soul to it and if it will feel very mechanical. NFS Payback has a story and context around the gameplay with it's F&F vibes. The one before was really good imo so i'm fairly excited for the new one!
