The first expansion for Horizon: Zero Dawn – which is named Frozen Wilds – will add a “brand new area with its own compelling story”. That’s according to Guerrilla Games bigwig Hermen Hulst on the PlayStation Blog, who added that fans can anticipate new adventures and side-activities to boot.
The add-on is available to pre-order from the PlayStation Store now, but it’s unclear whether it will require the base game to be played. More information will apparently be revealed in the weeks and months to come, ahead of launch later this year.
Update: As pointed out in the comments, the PlayStation Store listing notes that you'll need a copy of Horizon: Zero Dawn in order to access the Frozen Wilds. Makes sense.

Will probably pick this up when it's on some sort of sale. I enjoyed the base game but didn't find it as compelling as others did. Decent experience though especially with combat. All they need to do is improve the voice acting, facial animations and flesh out side missions.
I still need to finish the game , 24 hours in and nowhere near done = /
It's $15 with PS+ in the US. I'm not sure about everywhere else? $20 if you don't have PS+.
Also is says on the DLC page on the store "To use this download, you need Horizon Zero Dawn."

I still need to buy this game. It looks soo good.
@Splat Thanks, I'll add that to the article.
@oatmealwarrior92 I took my about 80hrs to finish. 93 to platinum. I LOVE this game.
@Utena-mobile
Definitely the best new IP this generation, imo. Feels like a mix of Zelda and The Last of Us. Only not as nearly as dark or depressing as TLoU.
@Gamer83
Yeah, it looks like a lot of fun. Unfortunately at the time I only had enough for either Breath of the Wild or Horizon Zero Dawn. Since I own a Wii U, I figured it would be harder to find a copy of BotW for Wii U later on so I went with that game.
The first half of this year had so many good games, I still need to catch up. (O.O )
I'll pre-order as soon as available. HZD is my most favorite game of all times. Really excited for Frozen Wilds.
Loved Horizon. I don't bother with Platinum trophies but it was a pleasure to get it on this.
Looking forward to the DLC, which I also very rarely bother with.
This game will make future games better. And from the trailers I have watched from E3 it looks like a bunch of devs are stepping up. First game I ever got plat on and itseemed to end to fast. Maybe the voice acting for some of the side quests wasn't that good, but about every open world game has that.
I really didn't think this game needed any dlc, a sequel set in a different time period would be great. But, I'll take all the hzd they want to sell, so I'm buying.
Question I had, has anyone heard if there will be any new types of enemies? I'm fine with all there already was but some new ones would be great. Also was thinking that if there's gonna be new armor added it's gonna have to be pretty amazing to contend with shield-weaver armor...
I wonder why it hasn't been posted for pre order on the UK PS store :/
I rarely pre-order but I have faith in the game and the developers after a near perfect launch. I can't wait to get stuck into the DLC.
Enjoyed this more than Witcher 3. I'll definitely be picking the DLC up for it, and at what'll probably be 11.99 in the UK it's priced very well!
Hopefully there's new machines to hunt as well. They could cut the story and I'd still enjoy hunting them. Such a good game and if it weren't for Nier it would be GOTY for me. HOIST THE WORDS! THEY ARE UP! SON!
I sold my copy after I got the plat so doubt I'll bother with this. Rarely ever do with DLC tbh...
@Gamer83
I agree, I think TLOU was more because it was the fall and decay of society we knew and the characters were very self aware of this, Horizon was about the continuation of a post apocalyptic world where people were hopeful of the future and plotting their own course; we only have the full context about what came before as the player.
This was the most exciting announcement from Sony's E3 briefing for me. It wasn't exactly a surprise but to finally have it confirmed - with a bit of game-play too was exciting.
I beat the game to 'Platinum' level in a week and whilst I have jumped back in, I am really looking forward to some 'new' content - a definite 'Must buy' for me...
I hope this means we'll get a Complete Edition of the game this Christmas even if a Q1 2018 makes more sense.
The main story wrapped up so well, I hope they find a meaningful extension not just a rehash or tack-on.
Game of the year - absolutely sublime gameplay married to sublime visuals and a genuinely interesting story; the mysterious open world and the Dinobots give it a unique identity despite its mimic of other games.
Gotta be said that when Aloy runs with spear behind with a giant behemoth chasing after her it feels like Shadow of the Collosus 😏
Frozen Wilds on sale for $15 right now on the PSN was good enough for me, preordered last night.
I will buy every bit of DLC they pump out. I freaking love this game.
