The obvious talking point of the latest Japanese sales charts is the launch of the Nintendo Switch, which unsurprisingly rocketed to the top of the hardware charts. Ninty's newest moved 329,152 units, meaning that it surpassed the PlayStation 4's opening sales by around 20,000 units. Speaking of which, Sony's current-gen console remained steady in the face of the Switch, still shifting over 30,000 machines. Not too shabby, really.
As you'd expect, Switch launch title Zelda: Breath of the Wild took the top spot of the software charts, but PS4 exclusive Horizon: Zero Dawn wasn't too far behind. Aloy's adventure sold 116,997 copies, which is a pretty solid figure.

Japan loves their mobile gaming. I think the Switch is going to be huge over there.
I have to say both Horizon and Zelda are some of the best open world games I've ever played and both deserve to do well.
Yay for Nier! I'm glad it's selling well! Hopefully we can see some decent success for it over here. I think it's hilarious that people seem to love it more than FFXV.
Gratz to both Horizon and Zelda.
I genuinely wish Switch to succeed because Nintendo can certainly produce some of the best games in the history of art. I don't even consider Switch as a threat to Sony because the games there will be very different given its portable nature. Switch and PS4 can definitely co-exist very well so we can enjoy the best from both worlds.
I'm thoroughly enjoying Horizon while I'm home and playing Zelda on the go, I can't be more happier as a gamer.
329,152 Switches sold but only 187,379 copies of Zelda? What are they playing?
Horizon did AMAZINGLY well for a new IP in Japan. For comparisons sake UC4 did 129k and Bloodborne 152k. Guerilla is almost in line with established flagship franchises right off the bat
Horizon 2 in 2020
😆
let's put it this way..PS4 Pro is not available at amazon right now xD
@NathanUC Bomberman or 1,2,3 Switch??? xD
@NathanUC The answer is up there. 1 2 Switch, Dragon Quest Heroes and Tetris all made the list. Still surprised that only about 60% of Switch owners also bought Zelda.
@Ackbar7 I have a hard time believing anyone bought a switch for any of those other games personally haha. I'm still baffled 1-2 Switch wasn't pre-included.
@NathanUC THIS!
Horizon is exceeding my personal expectations in just about every way! Love it! Not sure how far I am, but I can't wait to see what's next!
While both are great games... you can't beat playing the whole game in your undies. Pun intended
Whenever a Western IP hits 100K in Japan it's impressive. When it's a new IP and does more than 100K in one week, that's even better.
Zelda did what people figured it would. Still surprised it's not selling basically 1:1 with the Switch though as it really is the only game at this point that's worth a sh*t until Mario Kart 8 Deluxe arrives next month.
I am constantly surprised by those xbox one figures. AMAZING
@NathanUC I was confused at first too, but maybe the digital sales are just very strong?
@Octane ah that's probably it. I forgot digital sales don't count. Good catch
@NathanUC Exactly what I thought, what else did they buy instead lol unless people were buying 2 consoles. I think two consoles is more likely than not buying Zelda, unless, digital sales? 1-2 switch is garbage.
