Who would have thought that FIFA 17's story mode The Journey would actually turn out to be a success? The single player option which saw players assume the role of budding star Alex Hunter played a big part in the soccer simulation's marketing, and was warmly received by critics and consumers alike. Unsurprisingly, then, the campaign will be making a return for a second season in FIFA 18.
It's unclear whether this will continue the story of Hunter or put us in the polished football boots of someone new, but we reckon that the former would be more interesting. Without spoiling anything, the wannabe Marcus Rashford starts to see some success at the end of FIFA 17's story, so it may be neat seeing how he deals with the inevitable sophomore slump.
Apparently, more than 10 million people played The Journey, and while that statistic doesn't detail how many dropped it after a few minutes, it's clear that the experiment was a surprise success. Nice, great to hear there will be a new FIFA this year, I was getting worried
Everyone I know who plays FIFA dropped the story mode after the first couple of matches and went back to playing Ultimate Team like everyone else on the planet, apparently.
I dare say that if I hadn't had to review it, I wouldn't have lasted to the end of the story mode, either. It's good but sometimes you just want to play virtual football without the frills, you know?
@ShogunRok yeah, I didn't finish the story. I gave it a good go, though, I got half way through the season. Then I just switched over to single-player career mode which is what I generally play.
