Santa hasn't even slipped down your chimney yet, and already we're talking about January 2017's free batch of PlayStation Plus goodies. That's because we're actually expecting an announcement of the Instant Game Collection lineup imminently – potentially before Christmas, but most likely in the days between the Big Day and the New Year.
So what could hit Sony's popular service? Well, new releases on 10th January – when the goodies are most likely to drop – include rhythm title Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Future Tone and acclaimed adventure game Night in the Woods. The latter actually seems like a strong candidate, assuming the platform holder plumps up for something brand new.
Personally, though, this author would love to see Gravity Rush Remastered make the grade. It's unlikely that the upcoming Gravity Rush 2 will receive much marketing spend, but putting the entirety of the original in front of millions of players should give the sandbox sequel the exposure that it needs to succeed. Plus, it would be a brilliant freebie.
But let us know what you're hoping for in the comments section below. Do you think that the structure of PlayStation Plus needs a change at all, with the PS3 and Vita titles becoming increasingly irrelevant over time? Let us know in the comments section below, and have yourself a very Merry Christmas won't you.

Stories is a great game! So I would be happy with one indie as good as this one and then a triple A game, dunno like Dead Island collection or something...
As a fan of Gravity Rush I would love to see it on Plus but I feel Sony would think it would distract from 2.
I predict either Murdered Soul Suspect or Ultra Street Fighter IV with Prison Architect
Anything really, i always enjoy the ps plus games and have done so since day one
I would love to see them offer something with VR support....
Yes, i would also like a vr goodie; vr worlds?!
I'm sure it'll be something fun whatever Sony decide to give us. Although I feel maybe it's time for another vote.
Knack
Come on, who would have ever said in 2013 that we wouldn't have had Knack as a psplus game yet? Its a miracle - and it is Christmas so make it happen Sony.
No VR titles please. There's only a miniscule install base - a waste of PS Plus game slots and money.
@themcnoisy FFS why would i want a game that ik 6,99.
If they want VR to succeed then they need to start offering a modicum of titles on Plus. There are a bunch of little games to choose from that they could shell out once a month. Or offer a PS+ discount on VR titles more.
@Flaming_Kaiser It was a joke. I would actually like Ratchet and Clank.
I would love to see something like Tomb Raider or the Order 1886 and maybe an indie game.
I think it would be good a good move for Sony to get a decent AAA game out there and it's not like the Order is moving big numbers.
Doesn't matter what we want, we'll get some stupid indie games.
I have Gravity Rush on Vita so getting the PS4 remaster or not is no big deal for me. The former wad also on PS Plus before, so hard to say if the same game on another platform is likely. Speaking of Vita classics, Tearaway hasn't been on Plus yet IIRC; it would be cool to get it (again, I'd rather have Vita version so I don't have to stream it, but Unfolded would be the proverbial gift horse, I suppose XD).
Among big titles on PS4? Dishonored. I doubt it'll happen (especially with the game still costing over 50 bucks here) and I'm certainly not gonna cry about it, but these prediction threads are about dreaming big anyway, right? XD Child of Light or Grand Kingdom would make very sweet crossplatform offerings IMHO. Among indies? Perhaps something like Among the Sleep or Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime.
On Vita, I'd be very pleased to see something from Neptunia, maybe ReBirth 1 in particular. Maybe Virtue's Last Reward; I'm reluctant to buy it since I inherited a 3DS copy from the console's previous owner, but the 3DS version is rumoured to have bugs with potential threat for save files (and losing a save file in a branching NG+ visual novel can't possibly be pretty). A PS Plus giveaway could be one way to solve my doubts. XD
I don't find PS3 obsolete either, but since I don't have one and can't properly benefit from getting one yet either, the games I get there stack up till "better times"... dunno, maybe until some PS4 Pro Wow comes out and boasts enough power to emulate previous generation? In the meantime, PS Now is all there nominally is, so I find myself fantasizing about Plus subscribers getting a kind of "mini PS Now" subscription to stream PS3 games already bought in PS Store or at least to have a rental "slot" for one or two games at a time from Now library. Granted, PS Now isn't even available here yet, so that's all idle talk anyway.
Structure changes? I think it might be cool if, say, Sony opened the library of previous Plus giveaways to pick games from if the subscriber happens to be owning some of a current month's IGC titles already. Those who have stuck around since the beginning and have the entire library as well (all five of them at first? Considering all the fan complaints and quitting threats, one is compelled to doubt there are many fitting the bill) could be eligible for getting one yet fresher and more expensive title for free - if specimens with unbroken subscription record DO exist, they will have long secured such an investment. Frankly... I'm not holding my breath for any of these fantasies either, and I'm no marketing advisor of Sony's to tell them how to to business, but again, daydreaming is a free action.

@daveh30 I hear Hyper Void supported VR, so I guess that could count as a start. Of course, as someone with low interest in VR, I'd rather continue seeing only titles with OPTIONAL support in the future, but that's my own bias and nothing to build a policy on. If VR exclusives appear on Plus in the future, yay for those with the headsets.
You know what, Hyper Void was on PS + before I got my headset, and I had never actually tried it. When I was looking through at the VR games, I had totally forgotten that I had Hyper Void available to download. Thanks for the memory jog!
@DLB3 Ideally yes but a part of me thinks that the business people will think that the first one will put people of the sequel or consumers will feel like they have had their fill and skip 2 for awhile. For me though (even though I already own it) get it on the service because I think it needs some attention.
Mekazoo.
I want Mekazoo. I know to a lot of people it's indie trash but to me it looks fun.
..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................Knack.
Oh and that one about the blind girl published by team 17would be cool
Already have gravity rush remaster but I hope sony give it free to psplus users to promote the sequel. The second one can be a good indie games (meta 75 and up).
As I only (partially) interested in PS4 titles (I haven't turned on my PS3 in a year) I am just hoping that it will offer me something worth downloading and playing for once - Something that may tempt me from playing the back catalogue of games I have. I also hope that for once its actually better than the offerings on GwG which for January isn't that great in my opinion - inc those on Backwards Compatibility. Yes Rayman isn't bad but they gave that away on XB1 so no need to download the 360 version (not that I played it much)
I can't think of any game specifically that I would want though. There are a few I might download if they became available - the Order, Bloodbourne, Until Dawn, RE4 or 5 remastered for example - All games I didn't think were worth paying the price for one reason or another. I know Bloodbourne was a popular game but the game-play is not normally what I enjoy and don't like the Dark Souls games so didn't buy this but liked the setting and aesthetics.
Its not like the PS4 doesn't have a wide array of choice with over 3years of releases to pick from...
@daveh30
You do realise that there was a VR game in Decembers line up?
Quickly snap up Hyper Void before the month ends and download the free VR upgrade.
I wouldn't mind, say 2 free PS NOW Games to play each month with PS PLUS. I think that would make people moan less online. Well they will never stop moaning whatever SONY does I guess
Gravity Rush Remastered or Marvel vs Capcom 3 PS4 edition would make me VERY happy.
@Carl-G been saying this for a while they should remove the ps3 games and over up PSNow 30 day rentals in stead
as for the games I'm not overly bothered atm with CODMW and Skyrim, with my eye set on Mafia 3 when Skyrim is dusted, I'm set for the time being. wouldn't mind going through Shadow Of Mordor again tbh.
I just want games I'll actually want to play. There are plenty of big name games that have dropped well under $15 usd in sales recently. One of those would do nicely..... but I suspect we'll get some of those $2 indie games instead.
Would love Oceanhorn, Prison Architect, Hyper Light Drifter or that other indie game about living in prison. it's name skips my mind
Resident Evil 4, 5 or 6.
Something, anything that isn't another cheap indie game!
A Formula 1 or Rally game would be nice.
Or another sports title such as MLB or Madden for example.
<Insert entitled or similar here>
It doesnt have to be big brand but an actual sports game wouldnt go amiss since we very rarely see a straight up sports sim on there.
Or maybe a DmC style action slasher?
Since I had no initial interest in those offered this month I havent bothered with them and dont in any way feel Ive missed out.
Im also with the many that are asking for maybe a movie or something instead of a game every month since we very often get a very similar genre list month in month out it would alleviate any of that as a movie completely breaks the mold.
But either way I doubt well see anything truly different so it is what it is.
@sdavala I love the pic. Matt straight up sucks
