Hey, did you know that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the SoulCalibur series? Well, if you didn't, you do now, and to celebrate, publisher Bandai Namco has released the above trailer.
Boasting quick clips of every game that's been released up to this point, all the way from SoulEdge through to the impeccable SoulCalibur II and finishing off with free-to-play foray SoulCalibur: Lost Swords, it's fair to say that the video conjures a sense of nostalgia for long time fans. It's crazy to think, though, that the last main title in the franchise, the disappointing SoulCalibur V, released a whole four years ago in 2012.
Naturally, you could argue that a new instalment is overdue, and that's unsurprisingly what a lot of onlookers are shouting about following the release of this trailer. Sadly, there's no concrete hint that a sequel is coming - although there is text at the end of the video that reads "The Legend Will Never Die".
Still, with Bandai Namco putting its weight behind Tekken 7 - which is releasing early next year on PlayStation 4 - we reckon it's going to be a while before the company turns its attention back to SoulCalibur, even if continued rumours suggest that SoulCalibur VI has been in the works for some time now.

Would love to see this series return to form. The last one I really enjoyed was Soul Calibur 3, which just seemed to get the mechanics and the mix of characters just right, as well as having masses of replayability with the different decision trees in story mode, the huge dungeon/challenge mode (forget what it was called) and the character creation stuff.
Only interested if Sophitia and Cassandra are back
Just after Soul Blade got released I swapped three games for my friends copy. Arguably the best fighter on the Playstation back then. Every bit as good as Tekken 3!
Ever since Soulcalibur on Dreamcast I've failed to care much about any fighting game since. Please bring it back.
SC 2 was the pinnacle and the series began its slide downhill. Possibly the best competitive game at the time, similar to Assasins creed 2 in the open world genre. Amazing games, the legacy ruined by lacklustre sequels.
Whatever new Soul Calibur Namco makes I hope it turns out better than V.
Favorite fighting series of all time. Loved it since soulblade on the ps1 if only they had platinum trophies and online in the mid 90's. I'd buy day 1 and that's not something I do lightly.
@themcnoisy Agreed! Although I did enjoy IV a lot.
I would love a new Soul Calibur. One of my all-time favorite fighting games behind SSB and Bushido Blade.
I miss the solid single player modes up to III. IV and V messed up Story and Arcade Modes big time.
Time to break out the Dreamcast!!! I wouldn't mind another entry in the series but after SCII they all kind went downhill at least I thought so. I just didn't find III, IV, or V as fun as SC or SCII.
