It's been a decent period for the PlayStation 4 in its home nation, and that continued this week with the release of Yakuza 6 and The Last Guardian. The long-awaited latter title actually did unexpectedly well, shifting some 82,260 units – a not exactly awe-inspiring sum, but much better than we anticipated. Fumito Ueda's fantasy even outpaced Final Fantasy XV's second week, which saw an 88 per cent decline compared to its debut.
As alluded earlier, Yakuza 6 topped the charts, registering 218,168 units – a decent tally, but a big decline compared to previous numbered entries in the series. Elsewhere, Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition continued its slow and steady climb to one million units, while Watch Dogs 2 slipped down the best sellers list into seventh. PS4 hardware continued to perform well, meanwhile, adding another 92,717 units to its install base. It's now closing in on four million units domestically.

Look at Splatoon still hanging on. Mighty impressive 19 months after release.
Nice debut for Yakuza 6 considering the state of console gaming in Japan. My favorite announcement at PlayStation Experience, among the many great announcements, was that Yakuza 6 will make its way over to the West along with Kiwami. That's on top of being not too far away from getting Zero. Hopefully all perform well over here so we can keep getting more and more of these games.
@Gamer83
Couldn't agree more with Yakuza. That was my favorite announcement as well, along with the new Marvel vs Capcom.
...wait for price drop, wait for price drop... Oh this is going to be a long six months.
Wow, Vita on 4th ✌️️😄✌️️
@Furtin The Japanese really like their handhelds, and even the Vita gets a boost there.
"The long-awaited latter title actually did unexpectedly well, shifting some 82,260 units – a not exactly awe-inspiring sum, but much better than we anticipated."
Just how low were you anticipating for Last Guardian? This is much worse than what Shadow of the Colossus did. This is even worse than what the ICO / SotC remasters did!
@Mahe it's a niche title and a market that doesn't really embrace home consoles anymore...I think in the West it will sell well (compared to the rest of the saga). It was never a blockbuster to begin with anyway!
@Feena But that figure doesn't feed many mouths, especially ones being paid for years. :/
Looking at other games in the table wondering if FF15 will reach 1 million now, how did it review over in the East?
@themcnoisy I hope they can make it. It reviewed very well, even getting a 40/40 on Famitsu....new fans are the key to this. In the West word of mouth is doing great and many sceptics are planning to buy the game down the line... I hope the same will happen for Japan but you can't do much with 3 millions ps4
@JoeBlogs HAHA a vicory for X1!
