Holy moly! Grand Theft Auto V has just smashed the six million units milestone in the UK alone, and that staggering statistic doesn't take into account digital sales. Chart-Track revealed the milestone as part of today's UK sales charts update, noting that the title first launched on 17th September 2013. That means that it's been in the best sellers list for a whopping 170 weeks – and usually towards the top.
It's worth remembering that the title originally launched on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, before later being ported to the PC and new-gen consoles. This has obviously extended the release's lifespan, though GTA Online – which continues to be supported – has also proved a major draw for many players.

Insane. But deserved.
6 million is usually a good overall sales total worldwide, let alone from one country. Plus it's still in the top 10! lol
Bought it twice but never cleared it. It's fun, but not a patch on Red Dead. The three character thing just didn't do it for me.
@kyleforrester87 It's too long-winded and the controls don't sit right with me. I got to the submarine mission twice and dropped it.
my favorite game on the ps3 all times is gta 5
This is one series I have never had the desire to get in to, I don't know why, it just hasn't appealed to my gaming mind.
I have never ever played a game in this series except a PSP port of a DS game.
It's all over now though... they need the BENZ!!
Now how about that sp dlc rockstar....
@Rob_230 Never happening, it was a rumor or Rockstar changed their mind, I forget.
Platted it both on PS3 & PS4. Have to add that on 4 all the online trophies popped after transferring my character. Still did story mode twice and don't regret it. Only quitted the game cuz the grinding for online money got boring. Never checked out the new expansions, though. But I'm good with that. More games to play ^^
I'm still amazed about the impact this game has. 3y later it's still selling. More games jumped from 3 to 4 but none keeps going like GTA5. I can only imagine what GTA6 will bring.
They have to get through Red Dead Redemption 2 first, and I'm sure that's going to be a big hit, but we know what to expect from it (not a bad thing by the way, sometimes straight and to the point is the way to go). The GTA series always changes up the lead characters, settings, etc, from game to game so it's going to be interesting to see what VI does. Stick with multiple protagonists? Back to Vice City or maybe a new city never before seen in the series? A setting somewhere in Europe would be nice, the U.S. has been done over and over again in games. People call for gender and racial diversity all the time, I'd love to see some more diversity in where games take place.
@kyleforrester87 yeah the 3 character thing added nothing to the game, I also bought it twice and only finished it on PS4. As you said it's not even close to the standard of Red Dead Redemption and I'll never remember it as fondly as Vice City or San Andreas either, I gave gta online a go for about 10 mins and never played the game again. Overall a decent game but nowhere near the standard bearer for open world's that many proclaim it to be
I'm loving the game so long! Got it 3 days ago in a fisical copy, i like collecting the games and watching my collection grow 😊 i'm loving the story too especially michael, i haven't got to the third caracter yet 😂
I don't think it's astonishing tbh it's a great game with a great world to explore, made by one of the best devs in the world, is part for a series that's known for being a class act and it's been released on 5 platforms - deserved sales think RDR2 will do it as well tbh
