A worrying pattern is emerging this holiday: Dishonored 2 is the latest UK launch to fall short of its predecessor's sales – and we'll be shocked if Watch Dogs 2 isn't next. Bethesda's stealth opus sold 38 per cent copies fewer than the original back in 2012 – and that's despite it being a much more established brand these days.
We suppose that some of the difference could be accounted for by digital sales, which aren't currently tracked by Chart-Track… Though that's a rather optimistic read on things, we think. Corvo's latest campaign blinked its way into fourth position overall, as newcomers Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization and Eagle Flight were forced to flounder towards the bottom of the Top 40.

Our Dishonored 2 review is still forthcoming; we only got review code late last week.

To be fair it is fourth behind the 3 big shooty/footy games that the mainstream UK seem to lap up every year.
Bought the game day 1 by impulse, without considering the reviews and I'm loving it. Great game, I hope it sells well so they make a third installment.
Loving it so far. The UK in general always has poor taste in games so no surprise. The fact that Star Wars Battlefront is still in the top 10 tells you enough.
I'd like to think this was a result of withholding review copies, rather than an indication of quality. I didn't actually realise it was out until a streamer mentioned how crappy the PC port was.
Early review copies are a double edged sword. Get the word out early & build hype or have the game die before it's out.
I loved the first one, and will definately get this one too - I think it's down to lack of reviews, and releasing the game in the cluster of Battlefield, CoD, PS4Pro, PSVR...
I have spent my PS funds on PSVR games and Battlefield, and I've been eyeing the Modern Warfare remaster + Infinite Warfare bonus game pack, and purchasing an unreviewed sequel game to put on the top of my ever growing back log just seems infeasible.
I will absolutely get this one though, perhaps put it on my xmas wishlist.
I loved the first one so I'll be asking for this for Christmas. I would have bought it myself if I weren't waiting for Pokémon and Final Fantasy XV. A little surprised at the huge drop in sales compared to the first one, even with the lack of launch reviews, but this has been an extremely crowded time for big game releases.

that's almost a certainty i'd say. WD1 launched in a relatively quiet part of the year with a lot of hype, and then turned out to be so-so. FF XV will probably also have the same fate as well.
Hopefully consumers are finally reacting to the state of the gaming industry. No I doubt it probably more to do with the competition.
Three reasons why it didn't do well,
1. Jam packed in a busy released schedule (guess all those delays to next year made sense now)
2. Bethesda strange review embargo
3. Poor performance on PC, put folk off
Review embargo puts a lot of people off. Its not like its aimed at COD/Fifa or casual gamers. But well people that have a clue about video games. Everyone should not preorder till this garbage stops.
I often chuckle at the comments made that the UK has a poor taste in gaming as evidenced by this list. Top of the Pops, that's all it is.
My main concern with this is publishers will be put off by making single player focused games in future with possibly this and Deus Ex selling softly too.
but lets face it how many multi player games can you play.
There are too many games out at the moment - coupled with the fact I have other people's presents to buy mean that some games are going to slip until next year.
I believe Mass Effect, FFV and Last Guardian are out before Christmas and I can only get one. I am also still to buy MSG5, Tomb Raider. Games like Dishonoured 2 and Watch Dogs 2 are way down my list.
I bought Skyrim a few weeks back after missing it on PS3 and still haven't touched Transformers or EGTTR and have only partially played Resident Evil.
Too many games, too little time.
@john_c add in a toddler & a 3 1/2 year old that take turns being ill. & last week my wife had deadly Romanian man flu. I only sleep 5 hours a night & still not enough hours in the day
while it's true that it's a busy release window, don't forget that battlefield, call of duty and titanfall 2 are also down on previous titles, significantly so in the case of the latter two, despite an sizeable increase in install base. it's not just a case of more competition.
I bought the first Dishonoured yesterday along with the Order 1886 and Assassin's Creed Syndicate all for £36. Christmas Pressies for my wife. Heard great things about it , hopefully pick up sequel for about £15 in 6 months or so.
I'm going to wait on it, the first was a game I played once and I've not really ever felt the desire to replay again.
@Anguspuss "but lets face it how many multi player games can you play."
This, absolutely. Take any AAA game and its 30 plus hours of commitment at least. The continual pursuit of keeping games relevant and in our drives for as long as possible is obviously going to stop us buying as many new games. There are only so many hours in the day.
I think people forget when Dishonored launched on the PS3 when there where a lot more PS3's then what there are PS4's now, so sales cannot compare to late generation. The real question is how well do games sell on the PS3 when there was a 40 million install base? that should give you a rough idea on how well games are selling this generation.
@leucocyte battlefield actually had its best release in years
I've done my bit, I've just ordered it from ShopTo, £36.
