Dear oh dear, the latest Japanese sales charts don't make for particularly pleasant reading for PlayStation enthusiasts. For the first time in months, PS4 numbers dropped below the 20,000 mark, with Sony's current-gen console selling through just 16,469 units. Simply put, the likes of Persona 5 and Final Fantasy XV can't come soon enough.
On the software side of things, there's only one point really worth making: Japan clearly wants Dynasty Warriors 9, not some strategic spin-off, as evidenced by Dynasty Warriors: Eiketsuden's dire opening sales. The new release racked up just 6,084 sales on PS4, while the Vita and PS3 versions didn't even chart.

But why would anybody buy a PS4 when they can buy a PS3 instead, as evidenced by the 7% jump this week.
Ok, seriously, why buy a PS4 in August when 9 of the top 10 games are on handheld and the new PS4k is probably due out in 2 months? Will be interesting to see if Sony makes Japan wait on the PS4K a few months like they made them wait on the original. Can't be too many 4k TVs in Japan.
I think world of final fantasy will be huge in japan and might help ps4 sales.
Musuo games are too bloated and the release schedule too hyperactive to get to the end end, fans are probably still ploughing through one, two or three of the previous games already to pick up the new DW game. Tecmo Koei need to step back and release better quality games less often with less bloated features (like collecting sodding coins).
@Utena-mobile "but I think the ps3 has better games than the ps4"
Well I wouldn't say better, just the same. Seriously, seems like almost every PS4 game in Japan is also out on PS3. Games that aren't also on PS3 are the exception, not the rule. And I have no idea what PS3 and PS4 cost in Japan, but I'd guess PS4 is about double.
Feels like Japan is leaving consoles and leaning towards smartphones. The thing is why hasn't Sony addressed this issue... like when will they wake up and make a smartphone with access to the whole PSN library! I want my phone with vita/android all in one (with external physical attachment as option)!!! Come on Sony engineers you know you want to!!
@themcnoisy I would love to see a decent Warriors Orochi game with real PS4 graphics.
@Flaming_Kaiser Yeah its strange, seemingly they have just upped the enemy count on most games. I wouldn't mind the same amount of enemies as last gen but more care taken on the maps and character models, I am really really bored of hitting generic character x clone for the millionth time.
@bbq_boy Smart Phones are disgusting little pieces of spyware. In seriousness I hope to heck that gaming doesn't shift to smartphones. Sure Steam has good games, but Steam Boxes are stupidly priced so that's a no go either. I seldom ever make any calls so a smart phone would be a stupid investment given that they're typically more expensive than game consoles and I don't want to go blind playing on a tiny screen...>_<
lol and yet there still 99.9 % better then the xbox has or ever will in that region so who cares , how uneducated are you to think any item can always stay at a constant high sale it has to lose sales at certain times that a given . the point is even with that its still destroying all the competition with easy so i dont think sony is to worried
Oh, the irony! I'm not fond of the normal DW formula, but love tactical games. I've been hoping they'd announce a western release for this - maybe with so little sales they will just to try to recoup some of the cost. (Even though I'm more of a disc fan, they could release it digital-only to defray some of the expense.)
