Tekken 7 is changing things up with its cinematic approach to combat. We've known for ages now that the brawler will feature a slow motion mechanic that kicks in when players land a crushing blow or a finishing move, but the title's story mode aims to take this idea even further.
As hinted in the game's E3 2016 trailer, Bandai Namco has confirmed that fights in story mode will shift seamlessly between cutscene and combat in an attempt to create a more cinematic experience. What's more, you'll be able to react to certain attacks via what sound like quick time events in order to minimise incoming damage. "We wanted to bring extra intensity without taking the player away from the fight, but also make the game even more fun to watch for when you're not playing," Tekken boss Katsuhiro Harada states on the PlayStation Blog.
How does this sound to you? Do you think that story modes in most fighting games could do with an upgrade? Slow motion smack us right in the gob in the comments section below.

"Do you think that story modes in most fighting games could do with an upgrade?"
Capcom doesn't think so.
@Splat
The story mode in the upcoming June update for SFV looks decent, but once again, it's restricted to single round matches.
Why ohh why did Capcom think it was a smart idea to make it impossible to do a single player two/three round match within the game, I have no clue.
Is the story mode like mkx or injustice where's we play many character or each character have it's own story?
@sub12 The story is a bit bonker thought, I see in ign there's sheep that change to necalii, there's ghost m.bison and many weird bit.
@sub12 - It boggles my mind really. I went from planning on buying SFV day one to not getting the game at all. They completely ignored their single play fan base.
If Tekken learns from Capcom's mistakes I would be interested in the game.
Yes, sounds interesting.
Getting this and KOFXIV. Capcom does not cut it anymore.
@sinalefa
I'm the same as you, KOF14 and Tekken 7 are on my radar..........I'll revisit Street Fighter 5 if they implement some kind of arcade mode or a variation of one.
I've re-downloaded Street Fighter 5 numerous times, it's not that it's a bad game, it's not, but it's so disappointing from the aspect that it feels incomplete, that I always end up deleting it after a few days.
@sub12
The game is good yes, but the content is coming so slowly it is easy to lose interest.
I also question Capcom's interest in correcting their mistakes.
@sub12 Single round story mode doesn't bother me, I usually drop it down to 1 round when playing a single player game. To me it makes me feel for like a fight to the death lol. But still it's just sloppy how they did SFV
@Tasuki
I see your point, especially for a lengthy story mode, but..................you can not play a single player two/three round match in the game, in any mode. Which is.....WTF? worthy.......
I find it interesting that Akuma is in the game but not as a guest character but an actual main part of the story.
@adf86
Nice way to attract somewhat of a new audience that may have ignored it otherwise. Aesthetically speaking he does fit into the Tekken universe.
I suppose if Tekken 7 does well, sales wise, we may see Tekken X Street Fighter.....
@sub12 It's possible, if Sony have got a thing going with Marvel, I wouldn't mind a Marvel Vs Capcom 4, though that would depend on resources.
@sub12 Agree they should have that option.
Looks really cool. I can't wait for Tekken 7.
