Who would have thought that last year's Need for Speed game would be best remembered for its live action cut-scenes rather than its coma-inducing racing? Swedish developer Ghost Games got off to a decent start with Need for Speed: Rivals, but its attempt at rebooting the iconic franchise barely got out of first gear. We're pleased to hear that it will be taking its time before bringing the brand back, then.
As announced on the series' official website, the studio's wrapping up development of the last major expansion for last year's game right now. It'll then be turning its attention to a new title, due out in 2017. For our money, the dodgy characters and awkward acting can stay – but can we have an open world that's populated with interesting things to do this time, please? Better yet, how about we go back to the good old days of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit?

Rivals was terrible, NFS was a good game but its controls weren't the best and for a game that was all about customisation it didn't have much of it.
I'd be looking forward to it IF it's not "always online".
@itshoggie I really liked Rivals. The new one's terrible.
How dare you have a different opinion!
@get2sammyb xD, idk man just found it very boring, no story just basically objectives to complete.
One of my main problems with NFS was that as an "online only" game it had no Lobby system, PVP section, I could only join my friends if we were at the start up screen of the game.
I don't think anything in the series will come and top Most Wanted for me.
@Kieran_9322 the first most wanted that is I was going to post a similar comment. Go back to most wanted, add drifting, make inviting only friends into your game not a giant pain, and let us wreck the city running from cops.
The last need for speed game that I like is need for speed 3..
@BigDaddyT0101 Yeah, the first one was what I was referring too! That sounds like a game I'd pick up day one.
I actually really enjoyed last Christmas' need for speed game. Sure it wasn't perfect, the AI had issues, lots of rubber banding and the online only format wasn't necessary or justified. However, I really enjoyed the open world gameplay, the graphics were immense, although very cringe at times, I liked how it dared to do something different with the live-action story and characters and I really liked the focus on real-life cars and the car balancing and tuning. I fell in love with Robyn too ❤️ ❤️❤️
@get2sammyb
Rivals was pretty darn good! As for the new NFS, blah!
Hopefully we get a new "The Crew" this year, despite some major flaws, that series has tons of potential.
Shed a tear for the lack of arcade racers this gen.
If they can remove all that "dude/bro" crap from it, that would be a start. Some of the worst acting in a videogame since Night Trap on Mega CD.
The "mate" who brings you in the gang, needed face planting on a just used hotplate and finished off with a shovel. "bro, your head is all caved in a stuff, awesome!"
Zzzz Zzzz Zzzz
I think were all forgetting about underground 2, easily the best nfs game they should go back to that, with online still present but not forced
Can someone make Ridge Racer PS4, Wipeout PS4 or Burnout PS4 please? If EA ard making money off Need for speed then surely those other franchises will work with the right marketing team.
@Stokesy657 id take a Underground 2 remaster with online than any NFS game released since.
I would have bought NFS 2015 day one if not for the 'Always Online" bull.
Love those cheesy FMV. Bad move.
You need to seriously start watching your language. I have warned you countless times already and next time could be met with a temp ban -Tasuki-
I must be the only one hoping for a sequel to Porsche Unleashed.
Rivals was a pretty decent title, but Hot Pursuit was the best with Most Wanted closely behind. The new one, although I haven't played yet, still requires me to get, but I won't pay a high price for! Other than that, I'm still waiting for a few other racing titles to come out...a New Sega Rally, Burnout, Midnight Club, Smuggler's Run or even a dreamcast classic...Speed Devils!
I just want more demolition derby...
@Rudy_Manchego watch the paintwork! (Or was it go easy on the paintwork? Lol)
@kyleforrester87 Ha ha yeah, I had forgotten that. Think it was go easy on the paintwork. Boy I got that a LOT.
Can remember me and my friends taking turns to do the most crazy crashes.
I would enjoy any NFS game by criterion. They make gameplay so much fun. Most Wanted (2012) was the best for me so I wouldn't mind the next game being "Most Wanted 2017"
I'm currently playing nfs and it's the epitome of an average game, Ghost showed promise with Rivals and this was a bit of a let down. Hopefully this 2 year dev cycle will make a better title.
I haven't liked an NFS since Underground 1 and 2 tbh.
I bought the latest NFS but found it instantly boring. The graphics and night effects are great tho. So I just drove around soaking up the atmosphere. Its nice bumping into real players, but that's it. I paid $90 for the game, but have gotten maybe $10 worth of entertainment/enjoyment. I'll be skipping the next one. But I'd be interested in a Road Rash if EA ever makes another.
