Oh, it's time for leaks from tonight's Final Fantasy XV event already, is it? According to a video posted on Chinese website Youku, Square Enix will be releasing a free demo that details a dream in which you play as a young Noctis. Er, great?
Apparently, this gameplay sequence won't be in the full release, so it's probably best to think of it as a quirky little taster before the main course. Judging from the short clip, there may not be much to it, but we suppose that it could be interesting all the same. Of course, we're fully expecting this to be one of the publisher's "big surprises" from tonight's Uncovered: Final Fantasy showing. Whoops.
Does this sound fun to you? Tell Square Enix to just finish the bloody game in the comments section below.

Go away and finish the game. No one wants to play as young Noctis. FFS.
@get2sammyb
Frustration levels greatly exceeding hype level I detect. Just don't throw your controls at the box
@get2sammyb now, now settle down, it's coming this year so be patient or are we going to have to make you sit in the corner until your calm ^_^
Just seems absolutely ridiculous that after being in development HELL for TEN YEARS that they would waste time and resources creating a stupid, gimmicky demo playing as a young version of the main character. Just why Square? Are you really that out of touch with what your fans want?
They had talked about this a while back, I believe in the last ATR.
Regardless, if they're putting out a new demo, I'd rather have some of the new combat and be able to try out the magic!
@Majic12 it doesn't take much to take a small portion of the game and release it as a demo
@FullbringIchigo According to the video, though, this demo isn't even in the game - it's like its own separate little thing. Just seems a bit crazy.
@get2sammyb Does anybody want to play as old Noctis?
@Bliquid @ShogunRok Reminds me of the The Last of Us: Left Behind.
I do think it would be funny if after 10 years Squenix tried to start selling Ground Zeros type chapters before the game released, but maybe that's what this started out as? Who knows, it's just a rumour right, maybe this won't be free?
BTW - has anybody ever seen something labeled as "Demo" that wasn't free? "free demo" seems redundant to me. Demo = free, otherwise it's paid DLC or a paid beta. I just can't ever recall any company saying I had to pay for a demo. Though @JaxonH might argue SFV was a demo, but they didn't call it that. I do realize the original FFXV demo was only on the FF disc, but it was still considered "free" with the game purchase. I know I have never paid to play a demo.
Edit: My kid did pay $15 on Steam for Lego Worlds "Early access", but 'm pretty sure that was never labeled as a "Demo" either. I just feel like the gaming industry reserves the word "demo" for things that are free and comes up w/ new words for things we pay for. Sorry for harping, but it was in both the title and the first paragraph.
@FullbringIchigo Guess you didn't read the article, ya know, where it says it isn't even a part of the game, and was made special just for this.
@Bliquid. Come on bro, this is square, you know they made this special for some ridiculous demo that Noone even wants. Typical of the way Square thinks.
@ShogunRok
Yes, but look at Bravely Second: Ballad of the Three Cavaliers demo on 3DS.
10-12 hours of gameplay, offered free to anyone, with unlimited uses. That's an extremely generous gesture of good faith on behalf of SE, so I wouldn't write off these demos as a bad thing.
That Bravely Second demo was longer than many full retail releases! Acts of goodwill such as this work toward engaging potential customers, and softening up the fanbase.
Any exclusive content they want to provide us with via demo is fine by me.
@rjejr I think that was more of saying "available to all". The previous demo required a purchase - not of the demo, but of the game allowing download of the demo.
@ztpayne7 "available to all"
So you mean "free" as in "no strings attached" as opposed to "free" meaning money? Well I suppose that makes sesne. Though it could still be "available to all" if it was paid for, anybody could buy TLOF:LB or MGS:GZ, you didn't need to own the game or be a PS+ member or anything, both of those had no strings attached, they were "available to all", as long as you were willing to pay for them. I do know there are a lot of games on PS+ (on PS3, I don't know about Vita or PS4) that are free for an hour - "Trials" in the US, I think something different elsewhere, and personally I've always referred to them as 1 hour "demos", b/c that's what they sort of are, but nobody in the industry has ever called them "Demos". Probably b/c they aren't really free, you need to be a member of PS+, and they only last 1 hour at the start of the game.
@get2sammyb I was happy when I heard demo, sad when I read not in the game. Its going to take either jaw dropping reviews, or a game demo that sucks me in or most likely both to get me to buy. I just feel that this franchise has moved so far past what made vii and for me at least x so enjoyable and surprising. It could also be that because of the elder scrolls I've also just moved on completely from jrpgs, I just don't know anymore. My inner nerd wants me to get back into jrpgs when looking at the fun I had in lunar silver star, and the ff games of past, but my current gaming palate looks at the current state of them and winces.
@Majic12 well to be fair i have lost my glasses so it's really hard to read at the moment (the only reason i can still type is because i know where all the keys are)
it took me about 5 mins just to read your message
Why would we get a demo to something not in the game? I hope this isn't true. I don't care for FF games but I finally want a AAA demo for a change for Ps4.
@FullbringIchigo Alls fair when criticizing a game that has been in developmental hades for ten plus years with no end in sight lol
