Watch Dogs PS4 PlayStation 4 1

Fear not, collect-a-thon fans: the removal of Assassin's Creed from publisher Ubisoft's annual release schedule means that there's space for a different kind of tower climbing, and Watch Dogs 2 may just fill the game's space. The French publisher has confirmed that Aiden Pearce will return prior to April 2017. Well, to be precise, no one actually mentioned the capped character, so let's hope that the firm's, er… Put a cap in him?

No other details about the game were announced, but you can almost certainly expect some information at this year's E3 – if not earlier. Either way, it seems like this is going to be a transitional year for the publisher: "Ubisoft will launch a very high quality line-up, including For Honor, South Park: The Fractured But Whole, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands, [and] the next instalments of Watch Dogs," a rep said during a financial call.

This author wasn't the biggest fan of all the smartphone shenanigans in the original Watch Dogs, but Ubisoft has proven in the past that it's excellent at taking an idea and evolving it – Assassin's Creed 2, anyone? As such, we're eager to see which direction it takes with Watch Dogs 2. The question is: are you, too? Bark your opinion in the comments section below.
