Most Western titles barely manage to register in the Japanese software charts, but that hasn't been the case for Call of Duty in quite some time. The latest blockbuster in Activision's colossal first-person franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, entered the charts in first place, selling through an impressive 143,817 copies on PlayStation 4. For comparison, the PlayStation 3 edition shot its way into third, with 20,899 copies sold.
The shooter's popularity is good news for Sony, since the Japanese giant actually published the PlayStation versions in Japan, but even better news is that the new-gen system received a decent boost in sales last week – presumably off the back of the blast-'em-up's success. The PS4 racked up a figure of 33,442 units, which is an increase of around 10,000 over the week prior. It's also worth mentioning that Sony's latest machine is now creeping very close to the two million mark in its homeland.

didn't microsoft also publish it in japan?
What is going on with X1 in Japan recently?
It's sold over 500 units for the last 3 weeks!
@Spade_the_prinny Yeah, Sony published on PS4/PS3; Microsoft on Xbox.
Splatoon and Yokai really have long legs, every single week they show up.
The most impressive thing to me about this CoD piece (though it pains me to put "impressive" and "CoD" in the same sentence) is that the PS4 version actually managed to outsell the PS3 version by around an order of magnitude; most cross-generation releases in these Japanese charts are much more of a tossup between the two platforms than they rightly should be.
I guess butchering the graphics and completely removing the story in a game is what it takes to get the Japanese to stop settling for the PS3.
@sinalefa With good reason. Splatoon is pretty dang fun.
@dodoo That's called the Magic of Microsoft.
Oh, I wish the Vita was half as successful in North America as it is in Japan.

100% agree, only online game I care about playing. Need to play some matches in Rocket League though.
It was Mark Lamia saying "Konishiwa" what done it.
