Patches have reached a new peak with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5, as Activision's upcoming sequel has an update larger than the release itself. According to The Games Cabin, the title – which has been available to pre-load on the PlayStation 4 since last night – weighs in at just 4.6GB, but you'll need to download a 7.7GB patch to get it up to date.
While that may sound like bad news, even more worrying is the fact that Activision's not sending out review code for the title, so we won't be able to bring you any launch day coverage we're afraid. The title is out in North America right now, and will deploy in the UK later this week. We'll share our opinion once our retail copies arrive.
Until then, we'd recommend holding fire. This game hasn't looked good in pre-release material, and the way that its publisher is treating it suggests that it may not be worth its asking price. Did you bail on this sequel a while ago? Strap on some kneepads in the comments section below.

This is beyond ridiculous. And no review copies?! The little bit of hope that a I had left for this game is running out.
Coming to PS+ in a few months after it bombs...
Soaring like a Hawk more like Dead like a Dodo.#
Activision behavior over the review copies shows how bad it's gonna be.
So it turns out Robomodo were the people who made Ride
I don't know what I was expecting
I hope this prompts the Skate developer to finally make Skate 4 for the new generation. I'd by that for sure over this in a heartbeat.
Bums me out man, they could have made something great but they decided to go cheap and it shows.

12.3gb with patches? That's like the same as ether 1.
I normally complain about the size of games this gen, but at around 12 GB total, that's puny compared to everything else. Maybe it was expected given that the Pro Skater games aren't that huge in scale, but it does make me question the quality of the game, Then you have the review copies thing, which is a giant warning sign.
@Splat
Exactly. And with all the other games coming out, I can wait.
@get2sammyb How do you even get a review copy?
And i wonder how this game will be like? Is it any good whatsoever? I heard it isnt that great, and at a price point for $60 is steep for a crappy game...
Hope you get your hands on it soon and review it so i can know for sure!
Day one patches have officially gotten out of control. I never thought the day would come when a patch would be bigger than the actual game. Sony needs to limit the size patches in the first week ASAP.
