Horizon: Zero Dawn's one of those rare Western games that we reckon has a shot at doing extremely well in Japan, and Sony seems to have recognised that. The platform holder prepared a massive stage demo for the title at TGS 2015 this week, which consisted of a fresh playthrough of the E3 2015 sequence. If you thought that the five minute clip was staged, then this should prove you wrong.
In it we see the same mix of stealth and combat, but there are plenty of different wrinkles to this demo compared to the previous ones. The developer also drops a little extra insight on the adventure, remarking that everything that you can see can be explored – from the tops of mountains right through to the ancient cities lingering on the horizon. This is just going to be sublime, isn't it? Guerrilla Games may have a huge hit on its hands.

Looks fantastic. Always knew Guerilla Games had excellent pedigree but I felt they were held back by Killzone.
@stevie85 Agreed. I'm still a little worried about the story telling aspect of this game, but hopefully they can come good. If they do, I think this game is going to be big.
@get2sammyb Yeah, it's Guerilla's main weakness. I'm hopeful though. The game is very unique.
This is by far my most anticipated PS4 title, can't wait to play it! Hope it doesn't slip to 2017 though. I believe that with the right marketing behind it and the succes PS is currently seeing, this could be the best selling new IP ever, even if it's just coming out on one console!
@get2sammyb Did my tip about this footage reach you guys or did you see it on DualShockers?
The thing to be worried about isn't the marketting imo @boerewors, its the implementation. We have seen that marketting has far outpaced the ability to deliver recently. So far we have seen one little bit of the same gameplay again and again... remain skeptical is my advice.
At least it isn't like Destiny pre-release where they made up an excuse to not let anyone see gameplay before wide release to avoid people seeing bad reviews ahead of time. Or like Arkham's season pass where they didn't say what was in it.....If there is anything I've learned recently its that whatever you don't see in advance will likely be half-done.
So, like @get2sammyb said, worry about the story telling. Also worry if there will be more to it than just hunting dinobots. And for the love of god don't pre-order!
Really wish they used a different stage. Either way, I'm excited.
@Boerewors Thanks for the tip. I actually hadn't checked my emails when I wrote this, but I did receive the email.
@Mega-Gazz
I never used to pre order, but the last 2 years there's such a strange movement going on in lots of Western European countries that I'd be foolish not to. For some reason pre ordering games had become cheaper than ever: I can't remember the last time I spend more than €50 on a game I pre ordered. Prices actually go up the day of the release and I dont know why exactly. Well, of course it all boils down to the battle for the customer, but knowing how small the profit margins are as it is, these pre order prices are ridiculous. I often times just pre order everything I remotely like and if I end up not wanting to play it, I just sell the game for the same amount of money I bought it.
And for Horizon: the pitfalls are very clear, but I think GG learned their lesson. Not including some of the incredible Killzone lore in the game is also a design choice I feel, so I'm curious to see what direction Horizon is taking them. People like you and me who frequent sites like these aren't your typical gamer and if too much of a story is added they might lose their biggest audience: the casual gamer. But as gaming as a hobby is gradually maturing I feel there is room for a more narrative driven monster hunter, so I just hope the game is as good as it looks.
@get2sammyb
Wasn't fishing for compliments or anything, well...not just that , but I was wondering if we should indeed bother because I can't recall getting a confirmation on the website after sending it. Good to know we aren't spamming your mailbox for nothing
keyboard is being all busted, so I'll keep this short and likely without pressing the shift key. [smiley].
but you know the issue that is caused by pre-order. it isn't just your financial commitment, it is that the company makes their profit with a product that no one has seen yet, which means that they don't need working software to profit, which means they won't produce working software because why bother... until the pre-order madness stops (it won't) we will get half-finished disappointing titles where you pay for the finished product as DLC. some notable exceptions, obviously.
so don't pre-order in the hopes that it will encourage them to actually finish the game and deliver an awesome new IP.
PS - contrast the destiny/arkham dlc examples i gave to something like bloodborne, which released the first 15 minutes of gameplay well in advance of launch and was very transparent. Again, what you don't see ahead of time will likely be half-baked.
I want this game now!
@Boerewors
2017 written all over it. I'm fine with that though because with Uncharted 4, Street Fighter V, Ratchet & Clank, Quantum Break, Gears of War 4 and Forza Horizon 3 (if recent trends are followed), 2016 will be crowded enough.
God I love the music in this demo. I hope its in the full game. Could this potentially be GOTY 2016. If it is it will be a good win for Sony and PS4.
@Gamer83 It could slip into 2017 but they started development on it after Killzone 3 so its definitely possible we'll see it around Christmas 2016. I hope so anyway. Regardless, Sony have a good year lined up for 2016.
This is easily one of my most anticipated games for next year and also one of the reasons I want to get a PS4. While it's definitely possible for this to slip into 2017 after seeing the detail put into the game and hearing about the it's scope, it would sure help boost console sales of it were to release next year and be marketed correctly.
Really can't wait for this but I have to be honest and say I'm a little disappointed that the video is basically the same section of gameplay we've already seen many times.
Easily the best game of E3, well along with The Last Guardian. Looking forward to this game!
Please, please, please make a Limited Edition with a 12 inch figure of Aloy.
I want!... I want!... I want!...
@WARDIE
The sooner the better for me as well. This is definitely up there with Uncharted 4 on my most-anticipated list.
