We hope that you weren't planning on jumping straight into Destiny when you get home from work or school today, because Bungie's taken the servers down for a hefty dose of scheduled maintenance. At the point of publishing this article, the downtime is already under way, beginning at 16:00PM BST - that's 08:00AM PDT and 11:00AM EDT for you Americans.
The maintenance will last a rather lengthy six hours, ending at 22:00PM here in the UK - that's almost a whole day of Destiny down the drain for us islanders, we're sad to say.
Will you be able to cope? Are you already having withdrawals? Rock backwards and forwards while visualising all of that green loot in the comments section below.

Ive just been playing it, finishing up a Vanguard Bounty as I knew it was gonna be down for a while, and during the bounty I got an Exotic engram
I started the process of unlocking it and doing the little missions needed to use the thing when the servers went down. Gutted
The joys of an online-only game. Pay $60 but can only play when you're told it's ok.
Well that's annoying timing. If it had started earlier or later I'd have got some in.
This is the exact reason I avoid games like this. Can't play without an internet connection > no thanks.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Funnily enough, those 'green' and 'blue' engrams are likely to be be better than yr1 'Purple' and 'Exotic' engrams! They are likely to be useful too if you want to 'infuse' a lower stat item to improve it. It means that these items may be more useful than just dismantling for glimmer/parts.
Its annoying that Bungie opt to do maintenance at this time of day. I guess whatever time they choose, some people in the world are going to be more affected than others. For us in the UK, it's prime gaming time whilst those in the US are most likely at school/work and those in New Zealand/Australia are likely to be in bed.
Personally I find any online 'maintenance' annoying and disruptive. I really don't understand why this cannot be carried out in the background. Obviously these things impact more on online only games - whether thats Sony's maintenance or (in this case) Bungies. I also don't understand why it takes so long or what this maintenance entails - all of which adds to my annoyance.
It is down to the 'light' level. f you notice from the Taken King videos, All the green and blues from yr2 had a higher light than yr1. I think its so that a weapon or piece of armour you like can be infused so that you don't feel like you have to scrap it. I also think that it gives some value to all engrams but we will have to wait and see how much of a benefit infusing is compared to scrapping it and chasing Legendary/exotics. With the Legendary marks and no cap on the quantity, I doubt it will be difficult to get a full set of Legendary but if the Blues/greens have higher value, these will be useful to boost the Legendary stats. Legendaries and Exotics do have a better perk option generally although some are not that important depending on your playstyle/preference
I seems Ghosts will help you find the resources (like Spin Metal etc) but I hope the Taken King offers a trade system to get rid of these. When they removed the option to sell, it basically removed my interest and desire to even open chests or collect more. I end up scrapping more than I use now even without collecting!
Whilst its great to hear about the yr2 experience, I still want to know how these changes will affect yr1 content. If the VoG or CE Raid items are surpassed by everything (inc Greens) then why would anyone want to play or revisit these great experiences. I really hope they update these to offer yr2 versions to keep them relevant.
