We have officially hit that part of the summer where there's literally nothing to say about the UK sales charts. EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour is the newest title, so naturally that's sitting on top β but the remainder of the Top Ten paints a frighteningly familiar picture. LEGO Jurassic World, Batman: Arkham Knight, F1 2015, Grand Theft Auto V, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare β all of the usual suspects are there.
In fact, the most interesting stuff is happening right at the bottom of the best sellers list, with The Last of Us Remastered re-entering the charts in 33rd position, while Skate 3 continues to be buoyed by what's commonly referred to as the 'PewDiePie Effect'. Did you know that EA had to re-print new copies of that due to the popularity of the Swede's compilation clips? We're living in the funniest of times, readers.

This kind of thing really makes you realise that as much as we like to think that gaming is now as mainstream as music or movies, it really isn't. The vast majority of gamers are only aware of a very small sliver of available games. Within the "hardcore gaming community", a game like Final Fantasy VII is incredibly mainstream; it would be crazy if someone on a gaming site had never heard of it, and it's at that point of popularity where people dislike it just because it's popular. Yet the announcement of FFVII:R at E3 made absolutely no ripple amongst mainstream media or in general conversation with "non-nerds". Tributes to Iwata flooded the internet but as far as I'm aware wasn't reported by the TV news despite it being akin to Rupert Murdoch dying or something like that.
So yeah, that top 10 list is basically the result of children wanting Minecraft for their birthdays and most British adults just buying something because it's based on a sport they like. The others are just down to the biggest posters and displays GAME create in their shops.
Just found a copy of dark souls 2 in sainsbury's bargain bin for a fiver on ps3, snapped it up and ran to the nearest check out π happy to say the least π
