During Square Enix's Dragon Quest presentation earlier this week, we got a peek at Dragon Quest XI on PlayStation 4, although it's safe to say that what was on display was a very early build of the game. As such, we didn't get to see the title's battle system in action, but we do know, however, that the 3DS edition of the release sports a traditional turn-based affair, which has led to a lot of speculation regarding the home console version.
Thanks to a scan from the latest issue of Jump Magazine, though, we've got our very first, very tiny glimpse of combat. The picture that deserves your attention is at the top left, and to us, it looks as though the franchise's turn-based system is being kept intact. That said, judging by the camera angle, it seems to be more dynamic in nature, so we'd bet on it boasting things like cinematic shots of the action.
Can you gleam anything else from the scan, or do you think it's just not possible to tell? Speculate to your heart's content in the comments section below.

Please tell me I can change the hero's dog haircut.
Fingers crossed for a quick localization. (A man can dream, can't he?)
@flummerfelt I don't know whether it'll be quick, but I'll eat my shirt if the PS4 version doesn't come overseas.
Well VIII and IX had a dynamic battle camera, like FF has had from VII onwards as well. You know, you cast a spell and the camera focuses on the caster, you leap in to attack and the camera zooms in as the impact happens.
I hope that a quick localisation happens, and I feel like it actually makes sense. The good thing about a worldwide release happening either simultaneously or at least pretty quickly is that it all gets compounded into one big sales figure. Rather than it just releasing in Japan for a year and them saying "It sold 1.5 million in total", they can say "it sold 5 million" or whatever. Each region hears that, it sounds incredibly successful, and more people now want to buy it. If they release it in a very staggered way, it'll come across as just a mild success as each region reads about it and won't whip up the same media storm. Look at the Witcher 3. We saw article saying things like it had sold 3 million in a short amount of time. If that had just been released in Europe - or just Poland, even - then it'd be more like a few hundred thousand.
This applies to all games, but it makes far more sense than usual with DQXI since about 94% of PS4s are outside of Japan.
Making this available for 3ds in Japan is not going to help boost ps4 sales
@Snorky
Don't worry there will be PS4 version that'll sell very well:)
Never played Dragon Quest before but excited about this!
