The big rumour going into E3 2015 was that Sony was going to spotlight the PlayStation 4's innovative Project Morpheus headset pretty heavily during its press conference β but it didn't. While the headset was certainly discussed by gaffer Andrew House, it was only mentioned on stage for a matter of minutes. And speaking on the PlayStation LiveCast, the likeable Shawn Layden noted that it just wouldn't work in that arena.
"How do you show Project Morpheus?" the SCEA boss pondered. "How do you explain to the blind man what the colour blue looks like? You really just have to be able to experience it β and that's why here on the show floor today we've got twenty demos going live of different Morpheus projects. It's huge. It's not just a new peripheral for the hardware β it's a new platform."
So, there you have it: Sony knew that it'd look like an idiot trying demo virtual reality on stage, so it's focused on providing people with eyes-on impressions in its booth instead. Maybe we just need to get used to the idea that this company isn't managed by clueless monkeys anymore...

Thank goodness.
So how are people suppose to experience it before buying it? It's gonna be very expensive and I can't see hype alone selling it.
I'd try to cash in on shut-in nerds who wanna date their virtual waifu. That's the only thing I can think of that would guarantee sales. Well, in Japan.
@Gr3ggl3s If they're smart - which it seems like they are - one would assume they'll get it set up anywhere they can: malls, shops, music festivals, football matches, etc, etc. I'm sure they'll announce plans in due time.
@get2sammyb I hope you're right. I own the Xbox and PS4 and I don't plan to buy both VR headsets due to cost. I have to admit - from what we saw at E3 - Gonna take something good to beat Oculus/Hololens, whatever they're calling it.
I live in a small town. I find it hard to believe I'm going to be-able to test this thing out in person. There is no way I'm dropping this kinda money on something just hoping for the best...
Mouth, gift horse. Gift horse, mouth.
To answer the question - b/c Sephiroth told them not to.
I wanted more. price. release date. more look at the games in 2d
Thank goodness they didn't spend a half hour on it.
Just like move, the retard book thing and vita, this is already dead in the water before it got out, that's why, if you want something to succeed, you have to let people know ALL about it, and don't stop supporting it six months after it comes out, why doesn't this company learn from its own mistakes, also there 1200 dollar I pod, are you serious π£
@SeahorseLegs
They definitely missed an opportunity to at least boost support for the morpheus. Especially reading many of the comments on here recently it's going to be a hard sell.
I know it's off topic but you're spot on with the over priced ipods . I've been looking for a replacement for my old mp3 player over the last couple of weeks and some of the prices are ridiculous. Some players would be cheaper per ounce if they were solid gold.
I have said this on another post, but i am glad they didnt try to demo it as that wouldnt have worked, however i did want to know something about it. Price, name, release date, launch titles etc. I cant afford to just drop the value of a launch day ps4 again on a peripheral i know nought about.
They have nothing to show, it doesn't exactly encourage third parties does it.
Sony do seem to have their finger on the pulse. Peripherals come and go regardless of how "game changing" they are.
Move and Wonderbook both had significant wedges of their respective media briefings given to them, and neither were a success. I wouldn't worry about the lack of coverage at this year's event. If the product is strong enough it will sell itself.
On a separate note, we're all grown ups here (probably). Can we not use terms like "retard" on this forum? You're better than that.
I am sooooooooooooo GLAD it was only 2 minutes on VR Haven't tried it but i can't see it taking off really in a big way. It will just be like MOVE/3D etc etc in the end. I don't mind SONY doing a Show soon just for VR. That would be cool & wouldn't make most gamer's say 'We just want to see normal PS4 games' i like say
Didn't think I'd be saying this, but I wish they'd shown a bit more of it. Obviously the rest of the show was great so I wouldn't have minded had they spent a little more time demoing it or giving us some info (price etc.)
@Gr3ggl3s As I remember reading, the Xbox / Oculus Rift tie in doesn't give you VR, but the ability to stream Xbox One games to the Oculus and play them in a virtual living room. Worth knowing in case you're hoping for true VR on your Xbox One (see http://www.cnet.com/uk/how-to/explained-how-the-oculus-rift-streams-pc-and-xbox-one-games/)
Oculus for Xbox one is pointless as you need a pc capable of running it. As for Hololens which is undoubtedly cool will have little practical effect outside of Minecraft I fear.
Greg Miller was very salty over Morpheus after the show and declared it dead. But then again he does tend to resort to hyperbole to get attention.
