A nice little addition to Sony's absolutely insane E3 2015 press conference, the Japanese giant revealed that the PlayStation 4 will be getting a media player in the very near future. The official US PlayStation Blog states that the player will be available "this evening" on the PlayStation Store.
The player comes as a download from the store, and it'll allow you to mess about with any files you have on a USB device. Yes, you can finally play videos, look at photos, and play your music on your sleek new-gen console. Have you been waiting for this? @ShogunRok A slight typo in the second paragraph you put "you have you usb" No worries mate I know it's cause of all the news today
Finally
@Tasuki Thanks for the heads up!
Yay better late than never
@ShogunRok No problem you and Sammy get some rest now, hopefully dreams of Mass Effect and Shenmue and Last Guardian don't keep you up.
So, I can finally listen to all my music on my thumb drive?!
Awesome, I missed this news
Good timing for me, I can look at my wedding photos on my ps4. Now if only Sony announced folders! @ShogunRok Microsoft's press conference got a great reaction on Twitter.... Push Squares Thoughts?
insane now I can watch my movies on full screen instead of macbook ! ! Nice one Sony
Took them long enough. But hey, better late than never.
Hopefully there's music functionality for the games in the future.
Finally!
No CD support, FTW?
Does this mean we can cue up music to run in the background while playing a game?
This a great improvement. Finally, MKV support. I had to put custom firmware on my PS3 to watch MKV, eventually resulting in a console/psn account ban when I synced Gran Turismo 5 trophies even though I was playing from a legitimate GT5 disc. Disappointed that there is no FLAC support for audio files though, but my AV receiver can play those so it's not a huge deal.
Didn't particularly end up mattering as that PS3 ended up with a YLOD I couldn't repair and ended up in the cabinet with my other YLOD PS3. Never got another PS3 as they can't play PS2 games anymore and there is very little left on PS3 that I want to play that I don't believe will get a PS4 remaster. If they shipped PS3s with PS2 compatibility still I would go out and buy one today as there are still a lot of PS2 titles I want to play. And once I had one there are a few PS3 games I would pick up.
Not working for me. Put my USB stick on and it said that it couldn't find playable files. I've reformated and reloaded it with mp3 and mp4, but no luck. Anyone else has problems?
@jmbenetti its coming soon, mate
@Flurpsel The download is available right now. It's on The dashboard and other people is using it.
@jmbenetti for reals? Ill check it out asap. Dont know why it isnt working for you then
