We know that competition between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is tight in territories such as the UK and the United States – but in Germany, it's practically non-existent. According to a report by BÖRSE ONLINE, the Japanese giant is outselling its rival by a ratio of more than 4:1 – and despite pricing promotions by Microsoft, the gap is actually getting wider.

The publication – citing GfK sales data – claims that Sony has sold 1.6 million new-gen consoles in the nation to date, while its Redmond-based rival has managed just 378,000 units. Moreover, it states that so far this year, Sony has shifted 208,000 systems, compared to a paltry 47,000 consoles by its competitor. It's a story that's being mirrored across much of Europe.

And, perhaps understandably, the PlayStation maker is feeling somewhat bullish about the future. "The distance from Microsoft and Nintendo is not less but greater in the current year," the brilliantly named Sony boss Uwe Bassendowski told the publication. "The only thing that could reverse this trend would be a significant price reduction."

Alas, with Sony forecasting an increase in PS4 sales during the current fiscal year, we're fully expecting the firm to respond with a price reduction of its own. Could this generation be signed and sealed already? It's starting to look that way in Europe, isn't it?
