After over a year in Ghost Games' garage, Need for Speed will be hitting the highway this week. Over on the franchise's official Facebook page, EA has teased that the latest title in the legendary racing series will be revealed on 21st May. The publisher's encouraging you to subscribe to the property's YouTube channel in order to see the release first. Alternatively, you could just park up on Push Square.
The teaser image is mostly shrouded in shade, but if you pump up the brightness you'll spy an Underground-esque piece of artwork. It's been over a decade since the last entry in the street racing sub-series, so a comeback seems reasonably likely. Besides, this is a franchise that enjoys recycling old names – after all, Need for Speed: Most Wanted could refer to a PlayStation 2 or PlayStation 3 release.

Oh man do I hope it's NFS Underground! Those were my favorite installments in the entire NFS series. On their Facebook page last week, they teased it a bit by asking people who went back and revisited Underground over that previous weekend. And with NFS No Limits on Mobile devices returning to the Underground roots, it certainly seems more plausible that Underground will return to PS4.
NFS fans have been crying out for a return to Underground for years, it be about time they went back to it, weather it be U3 or a Underground reboot I'm interested.
And this will be the first NFS game I've been interested in in a long time.
I'm a sucker for an arcade racer so you can count me in as interested
Cool, I'm glad they took a year off. I think some other series should take notes.
@Jaz007 coughs Assassin's Creed
Rivals is great, if this is a return to Underground, I will be severely disappointed.
I hope it's not just the name that's revived. Need a decent single player campaign / career mode like the original..
Underground was boss, but the roads always looked like they had water on them. I never understood why the moneymen of ea never made a 3rd as the two earlier underground games sold loads. Good news.
Why keep sticking to the same? Try something new
If the new NFS is some about Underground saga, I just hope some things:
Not:
Tuning > Racing (ie, tuning not more important than racing)
Story > Gameplay (ie, the story (if they put it) does not overshadow the gameplay of the game).
It's all, XD
