The PlayStation 4's steadily slipping down the Japanese charts, as it suffered another sales drop last week. Sony's latest console shifted 15,992 units as it fell into third place, behind the New 3DS LL and the PS Vita. The latter continues to escape store shelves at a solid rate, though, selling through 17,273 units.
It gets worse for the PS4, however, when you take a look at the software charts. Not a single title available on the new-gen machine made it into the top 20, which is a bit of a shocker. In fact, the only non-Nintendo game to chart was Minecraft on the Vita, which continued to dig its way into the top three.
What do you make of this? It's no surprise that handhelds are dominating the Japanese market, but do you think that the PS4 can fight its way back to the top? Take a seat in your analyst's armchair in the comments section below.

Nice to see Xenoblade Chronicles X getting close to the 100k, hopefully the west gets a solid release date at E3.
Yup, just as expected. Both PS4 and Wii U will get an uptick here and there when there's a big release, but console gaming is dead in Japan and it's not good for the industry. A shame really.
@Gamer83 With 15 - 25k a week on ps4 alone its hardly dead. I think ps4 will have a long life. The Japanese audience wont forget that they had to wait months for a ps4 compared to the usa and Europe so that anamosity will most likely subside by the end of the year.
@themcnoisy
If the Japanese are holding a grudge because of that, they really need to get over it. Look at the sales. The Western markets are where the home consoles thrive, period.
wow, look at those software sales. 3DS and WiiU keep hammering those ceilings

I'm feeling emotional :') Hope one day, Vita gains steam in EU and NA as well...If Sony isn't willing to make games, they better make a team that will localize all Japanese Vita/PS4 games. So many games that we'd never see the light of day for otherwise. Don't even need to dub it, English text is more that sufficient.
@Gamer83 They do, it was reported badly over there with numerous hardcore gamers aying they would boycott the ps4. Similar situation here with the gamers boycotting xbox.
@themcnoisy Thats really funny because the rest of the world always had to wait months for console and handheld releases while Japan got them first. The shoe is on the other foot.
I love how Japan hates the Xbox One, it's hilarious!
Vita needs some steam in the UK and US!
Japan just doesnt care about gaming this generation (except for 3DS), kinda sad to see :/
The only place where Vita has vitality.
Is it even supposed to surprise us how weird/different Japan is? We've known it for years, they march to the beat of their own drums.
"Not a Single New-Gen Title Enters Top 20"
What? There's not a single "Old Gen" title up there either. It's all Wii U, 3DS and Vita.
Was this a mistake?
