If you've been looking to sell off a dusty and possibly decrepit PlayStation 2, you may be in luck as GameStop is once again accepting trade-ins when it comes to Sony's last-last-gen console.
The best-selling home console of all time is apparently wanted due to high demand from consumers. As you'd expect, though, you won't be getting too much for your old machine. The retailer will offer up $25 of store credit for the system, one controller, a power cord, and an AV cable, while you can nab $20 for the console by itself.
Do you still own a PS2? Does it get any use? Relive your favourite memories in the comments section below.

....what
This console just won't die will it.
Also $20 for console only
When I traded in my PS2 the guy at GameStop said it was the best looking trade in he had ever seen and I had it for years.
He said you wouldn't believe the shape some of them are in when people try to trade them in.
People just don't take care of things anymore.
That's cool. Maybe I will get a bit of PS2 gamin on again sometime. Maybe Sony should just manufacture a few new models, and bumb up those ever so legendary sales. They still sell a PS2 GTA bundle at Walmart too. Amazing how this thing has persevered throughout time.
@Splat I have seen some absolute shockers at a friend's house. For a number of years we had to put an iron on top of his PS2 slim to stop the disc tray from popping open. Definitely can't have been good for the console! Always baffled me that some people are willing to spend so much money on something and then be so careless that it gets wrecked like that - my consoles are all treated like the precious things they are! My Sega Master System is still in perfect working order
I tend to give away my old consoles to those in need. My PS2 went to someone I knew who was in bad times and the console helped give them something for their kids to do....my 1st chunky PS3 started to wheeze and when I retired it it went to a new life of mainly playing dvds and blue rays.
The PS2 was/is an excellent console and it helped define a chunk of my life...I think I was at university doing art at the time.
@Munkyknuts : good on yer !
@SteveButler2210 : for some people it,s just come easy go easy i guess .
(glad i still have mine !)
I still have my slim PS2. I don't use it right now, but that's because I've been too lazy to hook it up. I'm moving soon as well so there's no reason to take it out of the box.
In all honesty I need a new PS2, or at least refurbish mine. My slim has been in use since 2007 and it has trouble reading some discs.
I still have my Slim PS2, just haven't had a reason to touch it since I got my PS3.
Maybe if I ever beat all of my PS3 games I'll go back to it.
I have two of them, one fat hooked up to a LCD TV (my main one) with RGB cables and one slim hooked up to a CRT TV for light gun games and no way would I ever get rid of any one of them. My PS2 slim sits in the middle of my Sega Genesis non-TMSS model 1 and my Sega Saturn.
The best console ever. Dumbest thing I ever did was trade my PS2 to help fund my 360 and PS3 purchases.
I still send 200 - 300 of these badboys back home every year, along with the same amount of PS3s, which are overpriced imo. There is still a huge demand for these puppies, because they're dirt cheap and there are more games than you can ever play.
@ EyeDeeNO76, that's awesome.
Luckily I still got my PHAT PS2, using rgb component and 40gb HDD with network adapter. She's still a beaut! Don't have space for my Famicom or Genesis though.. :-?
These are where you get your "free gaming". If you're tired of day one dlc or micro transactions and don't mind a bit of blocky pixelation then the ps2 is the best. Good on it, I say.
I still need to buy 1. Traded in my old phat 1 meaning to buy a newer slim version but never got around to it.
Had a fat ps2, thought it was broken so I threw it away and bought a slim 2nd hand, then realized it was the disc that was broken...
I still use it rarely to relive some vice city or san andreas memories. I love it when it wont read the disc, then I open the tray, give the disc a whirl quickly close the tray and it starts working. Try doing that with the ps4 xD
@EWolf I never did get a network adapter for the phat PS2 I know the slim has it integrated into it but never used it. Have you used the PS2 network within the last year, does any of the PS2 games still have online play?
Yeah, the having space to set all the stuff up I hear you that one I also have a Nintendo and the Super Nintendo, Sega Master System, Atari 2600..... and so on but have to dig them out when I want to use them unhook one to hook the other in.
Still got it, still play it. Just recently finished Vice City (for the first time ever... bit late to the party)
My old PS2 (the fat one) gave out recently, so I'm thinking of buying a slim.
A PS2 can last many many years just clean out the dust in fact that goes for any video game console. Every two years or 500-800 hours of use whichever comes first. Dust, pet hair and smoke buildup will kill them. Smoke is the worst if you or anyone in the household smoke do not do it anywhere near any electronic device you are mildly fond of if and you want it to last especially optical disk type.
Who would want to trade this thing in ?? As far as memories go , PS2 is only 2nd to my SNES though I'll admit I probably put more hours into this machine (PS2). After all it's had like a 10+ year lifespan , longer if you're like me and kept it plugged in all these years.
Phat PS2 + gaming off HDD = best PS2 experience
Lets see
First PS2 (fat) I traded in cause my roommate at the time blew his part of the rent money.
Second PS2 (slim) The motor burnt out
Third PS2 (slim) The motor burnt out
Fourth PS2 (slim) the lid wouldn't stay shut
Fifth PS2 (fat) Still working.
Sixth PS2 (slim) just got for free from cleaning out a house.
Needless to say I won't be trading any in soon.
@EyeDeeNO76 "Have you used the PS2 network within the last year, does any of the PS2 games still have online play?" Tbh I don't recall ever using it for online, not sure if the online features work anymore. Only did the online thing when I got my PS3. I used it mainly to make images of my games and copy them over the network from my PC to my PS2. Makes load times a breeze. Last game remember playing was The Thing, still have to finish it..
@Tasuki Happened here as well 3x ps2 failures. My old original xbox and gamecube both work to this day. @EWolf online play wasn't huge at the time - in its infancy some might say. The internet was more dial up than fibre, its difficult to think back, but online play was pants at the time unless you were lucky enough to have cables running to your home.
The Return of the KING My Fat PS2 is still working Use it as a DVD player in another room sometimes & play the odd PS2 game now & then & got a PS2 slim in my room to. Wouldn't even sell them for 1 Million pounds Saying that i still wish there was a PS4 that could play my PS2(& PS1 & PS3) disc games to. Oh well.
I still have three fat PS2's, one connected to a TV. Never had one fail on me. Even have one or two PS1's somewhere.
Bout the best thing you can do (assuming ykuo pc cant emulate a ps2 😩) is mod a memory card to allow you to play back ups of the games you own. I take care of my disks but some of them have seen better days, its just a smart choice and its easy.
(In no way encouraging piracy).
