We've waited six long days for Sony to announce March's roster of PlayStation Plus freebies, so it was inevitable that the organisation would drop the lineup just as we were about to tuck into our hot dog and chips. Taking us away from our dinner this month are Oddworld: New 'N' Tasty and Valiant Hearts: The Great War, both of which will be available for free on the PlayStation 4 starting this week.
That's not all, of course, as puzzle platformer Papo & Yo and detective escapade Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments will front the PlayStation 3 lineup, while OlliOlli 2: Welcome to Olliwood and CounterSpy will be up for grabs on the Vita. Those latter two titles are cross-buy, so you'll be able to play them on your PS4, too.
We'll have a fuller feature on this selection shortly, but do share your first impressions in the comments section. Are you happy or sad with this software roster? Stamp your feet in the interactive area below.

In before "they made us wait for this crap?!"
Interesting aside, the European blog URL has 'Dishonored' in it, so we now know what caused the delay!
@ShogunRok Agreed, I have the feeling this will be considered a "weak" lineup.
Valiant Hearts is a cracking game, glad it'll be reaching a wider audience now. I'll take me some Olliolli2.
But I wish they would give us Knack already, I know it's cheap to buy but it's just gotta be coming to Plus... Right?!
I really, really like this month. Only game I have is Oddworld and I wanted to try the rest some day. Too bad the Sherlock is not onPS4, but not that important.
I'll download Oddworld but not interested in Valiant Hearts. Not interested in the PS3 offerings and don't have a Vita so the others are unavailable tome - not hat I would have downloaded anyway...
@kyleforrester87 I think they can't put Knack on Plus because it's metacritic score is too low. Shame really because it's definitely fun to play through at least once, I think.
All in all not bad, shame about the lack of any attempt at an apology though. Also slightly annoying that they keep on giving out last gen versions of games (like Thief and Sherlock Holmes) with no option to upgrade to the PS4 version at a discount price. Oh well, could be worse anyhow
I bought Valiant Hearts in the sale. Didn't like it much. Waste of £4 to be honest.
@SteveButler2210 An upgrade option would be very cool.
That Sherlock Holmes game is decent if you like slow-paced, detective games. Haven't played the PS3 version so don't know how it holds up, but it looks and plays great on the PS4.
Definitely worth a look.
@get2sammyb yeah I've been interested in it for a little while. Granted it's probably dirt cheap now anyway, but still I think a lot of people would go for it if they offered an upgrade option, similar to some of the earlier games like Battlefield 4 etc!
@SteveButler2210 I don't think people will pay extra for a title they're not going to own. And I don't think Sony will sell upgrade versions for games that are tied to a subscription service.
Not bad for ps4, vita meh. I liked Sherlock on ps4, would really recommend it. There's three titles on ps4 I'm looking forward to trying out, odd world not so much but I'll give it a chance
@Wesker
Likely true re. Knack. I'll pick it up later on this year I guess. Did you make it to the end of Valiant Hearts out of interest? I admit the gameplay was left a little wanting but as an overall package I was left satisfied.
I really liked Valiant Hearts. The ending's very well done.
@kyleforrester87 No. I think a quarter at the most. I just wasn't enjoying it.
LOL. I never EVER complain about PS Plus...but I have to admit this month is really really weak :/ Ok, Valiant Hearths and Olli Olli 2 I really want to play...But the fact there's no real triple A game or even a long game (most of these are like 3 to 4 hours I think) is really reaaaaally MEH
I love these games. I will download olliolli 2 even though I'm not going to play it, I bought the first one and really suck at it. I hoped for a AAA title (a multiplayer one would have been nice) but indies aren't bad.
@get2sammyb It's a shame sherlock holmes isn't the ps4 version, seems like they go the cheap way if they put a game on plus available for both ps3 and ps4.
@AFCC If you can beat OlliOlli 2 in four hours, I'll eat my shirt!
Japan got Killzone™ Shadow Fall in December last year, I keep wondering when it will show up for the rest of us.
Thats not too bad, but still kinda meh
@get2sammyb like I said, I'm not disappointed with Olli Olli 2. I said here on another post that I wanted to buy it I accept your challenge though ahah!
nice nice niccceeee
to think I almost bought Oddworld last night!
So 4 PS4 games then, COOL
What i dont get is... when are we going to get some "big AAA" games ? like Knack or Killzone ? i really doubt ANYONE is buying those games
only interested in Valiant Hearts but I'm o.k with that, I'm happy as long as there is at least 1 game I'm interested on
Sony sure loves adding these generic Indie games to the IGC. Glad I allowed my subscription to expire. These really aren't worth the money, IMO. And before someone says "They're free. I don't know why you're complaining", they are NOT free.
@ShogunRok
People on the comment section via the blog already made that clear... At some point the criticism gains validity. I can see why.
@get2sammyb
Indirect communication is still communication, right?
Am I the only one that thinks this is one of the best lineups in forever?!? Excited to play all 6 of these 😃
Will give valiant hearts a crack, Olli Olli 1 was cumbersome (for me at least) to play on the vita, oddworlds had its day, counterspy will give this a whirl but wont expect much. After rogue legacy, first light and injustice over the last 3 months this is a step backwards. I'm with everyone else though - get knack on plus!!!
@Wesker true, but I don't see why they couldn't give the PS3 version free with the sub, with the option to pay an extra £10 to OWN the PS4 version.
Oddworld new and tasty is one game ive been hoping to grab just for nostalgic reasons. The rest not to bothered about. Not been the best for the ps4 plus subscribers so far, really hope it gets better than last year.
Oddworld is awesome! I already have it, but I'm glad more people are going to get to try it out! I'm very happy to see Valiant, as I've been holding off buying it because it looked like a perfect candidate for PS+. OlliOlli2 is a welcome addition, and though I won't bother downloading Sherlock (great game, but I finished it on Xbox One), it's well worth a try if you like mystery games.
Overall, a very good month. Thank you, Sony.
I will give Valiant Hearts a try been wanting to check that one out for awhile now. Never been a big fan of the Oddworld series but its free.
Meh
Well that was worth the wait... I'll take Valiant Hearts and leave the rest. Papo and Yo is a great game by the way, really enjoyed my time with it.
@Wesker knack is okay, I enjoyed it for a couple of short stints a few hours long, pretty much a kids game though and I couldn't be bothered finishing it.
@get2sammyb What happened to Dishonoured? Just woke up & looked at the update, a bit confused at the moment lol
@fsmmikey It was in the URL for the European PS Blog post, but clearly didn't make the cut. Many are speculating that that was the reason for the lineup's delay.
I just died reading comments on the official PS blog lol why are so many acting entitled? 'they are too late I DEMAND an apology!' whaha
or 'again some stupid indie games, where are our triple AAA games!!' I dont want to live on this planet anymore
Looks decent enough to me. Oddworld should be good on the Ps4, but seriously Sony, no The Order 1886?
@get2sammyb The Vita titles PSTV compatible? Sony have been throwing out the Vita indies onto the IGC lately and most haven't even been compatible with the PSTV
Yawn.
Anyone on the ps3 is getting a peach with Sherlock.
Tried Valiant Hearts on my mates ps4 and it bored me to tears.
Another non side scroller would be nice but I dont see it any time soon.
Next month perhaps.
Not interested in anything else, other than that the guy that was on staff for New n Tasty made the awesome Legion Saga series.
The thing with ps4 PS plus is that by now I've probably played most of the stuff that I'm vaguely interested in that is remotely plausible as a PS plus title.
@AyeHaley I find that weird too. You can't download an apology and play it on your PlayStation 4. Complaining about indie games... Well, they have a point... PS Plus doesn't provide as many AAA games as it's users had come to expect.
@get2sammyb everybody loves a poll... maybe you guys should do one at the end of each month to see what people actually thought of the offerings...
@Wesker zero AAA on PS4
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi I think it was games like Assassins Creed 3, Far Cry 3 and Burnout Paradise on PS3 that raised expectations. There was a period where it seemed PS Plus was a AAA solution for a lot of gamers.
For me Sherlock is the most exciting part, but Odd World & Ollie 2 are good gets too. I'll buy downloading & playing all 3.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Yeah and me.
I was happy with Apotheon, was a nice diversion.
But I personally, am a bit bored of the same old side scrolling stuff atm.
Theres never really that much variation visually which takes its toll for me. Thats why I was looking forward to Helldivers as a poss.
@MadchesterManc To be honest with you, I honestly don't know. There's no reason why they shouldn't be, but y'know what PSTV is like.
@Wesker What is never taken into account also is not everyone owns all systems.
Which really winds me up when all the idiots jump on the "its free be happy, you have to like it and arent allowed to complain" bandwagon, as I bet you any money those people own at least 2 platforms.
Valiant Hearts yay! Been looking forward to play that game for a while now
Oddworld was hands down one of the best games from 2014, glad more people will be able to experience it.
Oddworld was hands down one of the best games from 2014, glad more people will be able to experience it.
I have 4 out of 6. They are good games that everybody should try at least.
PUMPED. I planned on buying OddWorld on PS4 and Valiant Hearts at some point, so I'm really happy about this!
Decent line up if you ask me. People's behaviour this past week on the PS blog has been reprehensible. Like spoiled kids. And it really annoys me when people start bleating on about wanting Knack. Knack sucks! Croc on the PSOne was better than Knack!
And it's really weird when people who don't have consoles complain about the games they can't play. Personally, between my three PS platforms and my two xbox systems I'm spoiled for choice this month. My advice to all the haters is to get richer and buy more consoles, and all the AAA games you want. That's what I do. Some time I just lay out all my unplayed games, throw em in the air and make it rain!
Ooooo Nice lineup as always.
As a owner of a PS3 and a PS TV, these games suck!
@ToOGoodOfAPlaya It depends on the service I guess. I bought Xbox Gold long before they decided to offer free games so they were always more of an 'extra' bonus. I felt it was less easy to complain about the free offerings when I was paying the same amount prior with no free games. I also downloaded more in 'value' than I paid out for Gold and obviously got to keep those regardless. Its hard to criticise those free offerings when you paid for online services and they were 'extra'
PS+ originally seemed more about the free games and had to justify its costs more as online was free anyway. If the offerings were perceived as 'poor', people felt justified in complaining as that was what they were paying for.
Obviously things have changed a bit with the new generation. On PS4, you are paying for online gaming now. On Xbox One you never 'own' the games you get so both PS+ and Gold are similar in that respect for these consoles. however those on PS+ have been used to a better quality and like I said felt justified in complaining about poor quality games as 'free games' was the main reason you bought PS+ before. Its like Xbox owners would feel justified in complaining about the quality of online services if that dropped below a certain standard after all that was the main reason they bought Gold.
@MakeLoveNotWar You're absolutely right, they're not free. At £39.99 per year, for PS Plus, those two PS4 games would have cost you just less than £1.67 each (assuming you ignore the two PS Vita games are cross buy, so could also be played on PS4). Shocking isn't it? How dare they insult us so. You should expect a game worth at least £40 for that, right?
@MadchesterManc The Order......seriously?
Valiant heart was on my radar and oddworld is almost an aaa production. Satisfied by the choice!
@freaksloan
Exactly. This lineup is a steaming pile of $*€^, even if you throw in the PS4 games.
Xbox's Games With Gold sees this lineup of indies and continues to laugh at Sony's incompetence.
@BAMozzy Theres been some good and bad like anything.
I am aprehensive with plus on the basis that the frequency psn goes down is far too high in my opinion.
So £40 quid a year for a service that is unavailable 3 months in the year becomes a problem.
That said, Im happy with it as a whole, and as I came from xbox to ps with the release of the last of us, I only got the good stuff.
I dont expect triple a or whatever nonsense people like to assume, but I would like more veriety, understandably more limited with the short life of the 4.
I own two of the titles and I'm still pleased with the lineup. Need to stop even looking at the blog comments though. Some genuinely infuriating people on there.
Happy with the Vita games, already have Abe, would've liked Sherlock Holmes on PS4, but thems are the breaks
@get2sammyb If I had PS Plus I'd be curious to check out Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments.
I've never played detective games before, but I do enjoy watching both Detective Conan (Case Closed) and Elementary.
@ToddlerNaruto Its worth buying mate.
Classic Sherlock style, more like the Jeremy Brett version(Im a big SH fan).
Its a fun, intriguing game.
@ToOGoodOfAPlaya Thanks for the recommendation!
Hopefully I'll save up enough money for PS Plus before March ends.
@ToddlerNaruto The one before Crimes and Punishments was better, Testament Of Sherlock Holmes. This one was really boring and went on for ages - despite it being a collection of smaller cases rather than one long case.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Sony did a poll on their blog about what people thought of the offerings. It lasted about two months as they were amazed that people weren't as pleased as they hoped. Sadly they seem to just do what they please without looking at what people are saying. Rightly or wrongly the PS+ bashers are louder and in more numbers than the lovers. Sony didn't like being told they were doing what many (again rightly or wrongly) think is a poor job so got rid of the polls rather quickly. Head in the sand is their plan a, b and c.
@XFsWorld Not seriously, obviously. Although it never will come to PS+ due to it getting terrible reviews (games have to get a certain score or above).
OMG!! 😪😪 I only brought oddworld new n tasty, couple of weeks ago! UGH!! This is why I HATE buying indie games from the psn!! £19.99 too, I feel cheated!! 😪😪
@rastamadeus Even if The Order did have better scores it wouldn't come to Plus so soon.
@kyleforrester87 I bought knack at launch. It was okay, but nothing to write home about.
Aaaawesome games for PS4! Thank You Sony!
CounterSpy! Aww yiss!
@get2sammyb I guess I'll find out tomorrow then. I do prefer my indies on the PSTV oddly enough
@XFsWorld I was just being a little mischievous with that statement. I'm not actually one of those neanderthals that believes brand new AAA games should be on plus
It's not a bad lineup, at least on the PS4, but when Sony keeps the consumers in the dark and the result is this it's going to get hate. And I don't think it's unfair either. At some point I would love to see the people in suits at Sony get their heads out of their a$$es regarding communication but as long as people defend them it won't change.
@MadchesterManc OH lol
@XFsWorld #sarcasm
@MadchesterManc So you're now saying The Order should be on? Ain't no way it's AAA
@Gamer83 Just out of interest I had a look at the EU blog. Close to 400 posts, no replies from anyone at Sony. Personally I don't think they need to apologise as it's not like it's the end of the world but the majority of people want one so it's not that hard to say "sorry" is it. May even look like they care about their customers - then again, can't have that can they?
