Wow, well this is a pretty good promotion. 2015's Spring Fever deals are kicking off soon on the PlayStation Store, with PlayStation Plus subscribers able to knock down the prices on eight weeks' worth of new releases.
The concept is a pretty simple one: basically, a new PlayStation 4 title is going to launch once a week for eight weeks, and each game will be discounted for Plus members. This means that you can save on upcoming releases like Helldivers, Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number, and even Shovel Knight.
The promotion begins next week in North America, on the 3rd March, and although nothing's been confirmed for Europe just yet, we wouldn't be surprised to see a similar selection of deals make it overseas. On top of all this, you'll also be seeing discounts on games and movies from various franchises, including God of War, Assassin's Creed, Grand Theft Auto, Batman, and Dragon Age.

What a lineup that is!
Unbelievable lineup. I remember the first Spring Fever, which was a poor attempt at immitating Summer of Arcade. Look how things have changed - this is outrageous!
Finally get to play Bastion at last, been waiting 3 years now lol. And Shovel Knight's one of my most anticipated games.
Yes!!.. Titan souls!!!
I get 2 things from this
A) Helldivers is not march free ps+ game
B) 10% is kinda terrible 20% and we are talking
"But, but the PS4 haz no gamez" Excellent stuff will get a few
Hmm. If Helldivers isn't a PS+ freebie then what will be?? I am hyped for Helldivers still and will buy it if it's good.
LOOK AT THAT LINEU--wait. 10% off? Go dig a ditch Sony. Come back when you're taking this seriously.
@glassmusic You do know the developers have to agree to the discount right? They have to get paid after all.
@Faruko Agreed on point 2. I was just thinking the same thing.
Wow this is awesome, thanks Pushsquare
Hotline Miami, Axiom Verge and Shovel Knight for me
OR... We could just shop around and preorder physical copies for 10% less? Or wait a month or two for it to drop in price OR buy a second hand copy.
10% off is totally worthless even on £50 games as they can always be found for sub £45 at release elsewhere. I wish that Sony would embrace Steam a little and make a sale that we could get even half as excited about
@benrawr to be fair they had some pretty good sales with steam like prices a couple of times last year.
I am getting hotline miami and probably bastion
waiting on Lego and GTA discounts for PS4 ^^
Something I've noticed from coming to this site vs news sites. The lists of games on sales are crap. It's just a few games in a paragraph talkin about the list. How hard is it to make a list? It would be so much easier to read and see if there's something looking for.
If Shovel Knight is part of this then I will finally get Shovel Knight.
Is it me, or are the prices of indies slowly getting more and more expensive? I think around $10 is the absolute sweet spot, cause for $20 your past the impulse buy territory.
I know I for one would buy 7 out of 8 for $10, but at this price point probably just 1, maybe 2... And the only game I'm definitely buying is a game I already own, Shovel Knight. And I think that sentiment is very important: I buy Shovel Knight because I know I can trust these devs, but with indies it's always more or less a gamble. I'm willing to put $10 on the line, $15 or even $20 not so much.
And maybe I would have felt differently without Plus absolutely killing the indie scene: why shell out $20, when there's a steady stream of Indies coming for free every month. I don't wanna say they all look alike, but they do.... So if I like Axiom Verge for instance, I probably own 2 or 3 similar titles already, with the same amount coming later this year...and maybe even Axiom Verge itself.
Could be better but we'll see if there's somrthing good discounted that we haven't already gotten thru plus
@adf86 Steam does 20-25% disscount on almost every indie game.
And thas considering those games would be about 50% in a month or so after release, not like Consoles where it will keep its price for months
@Boerewors "I buy Shovel Knight because I know I can trust these devs, but with indies it's always more or less a gamble."
It's often just as much a gamble with AAA titles. I've gotten as much or more enjoyment out of indies as AAA titles on the PS4 and I know I'd rather gamble $20 than $60.
I love that Sony is doing more sales! I think it great, something we didn't see in the past on consoles. Games could hold their price for a year or more in the past. I tend to find something to purchase on most of them. Thank You Sony !!
@Faruko It's quite a bit different on Steam because (although there are other markets) it has a monopoly on the PC scene. I've heard devs say on a fair few occasions that people will outright refuse to buy their games if they aren't on Steam. For indie devs it's now more then just getting onto Steam, they also have to deal with the over saturation of the market. Having their games significantly discounted at launch is probably the only way to gain any kind of exposure. Where's on PSN there's less competition on the store update, plus they will probably get a write up on the blog prior to launch giving them better exposure then most games on Steam ever get.
@adf86 Right. And ultimately, I don't think the devs care if you buy their game on Steam, PSN or Xbox Live as long as you buy their game. Putting the game on PSN gives their game much needed attention whether you buy it there or not.
@adf86 Isnt the complete oposite ? i mean, theres NO competition on PSN/XBL/eShop, its a complete monopoly where you cant do anything if sony/MS/nintendo dont allow it, theres a monopoly, so they do what they want, on PC you have a lot of retailers that can do sales and stuff meaning that theres actual competition (and in fact that adds to PC games being $10 cheaper, well that and only digital AND having more sales), in fact, there are a lot of places that only sell steam games
A lot of devs praise the more open mind of the PC scene, the whole greeenlit has been pretty terrible, but it was a nice way not to make Steam filled with cheap-terrible game
@Faruko Of course PSN has competition! Odds are high that if you own a PS4, you also own a PC capable of running most indie games, so unless a game is PS4 exclusive you'll likely find it elsewhere for cheaper. If you're limiting yourself to only playing games on PS4 then you have no one to blame for the lack of options but yourself.
Anyway, as I said before, unless a game is PS4 exclusive the lack of competition within PSN's marketplace is irrelevant. It's well known that any indie game available on both PC and consoles sells best on PC, yet the market is much less saturated on the consoles and games more likely to get attention. Indie devs put their games on consoles as a marketing tool, not because they expect them to sell especially well. If they do, that's a bonus.
@Faruko Don't get me wrong, there's great deals to be had on PC but it seems the console stores seem to work differently.
Steam, microsoft and sony are in competition with each other. If you game on ps4 (like most of us here) then we are held in a self fulfilled monopoly for that closed digital game delivery system. The more games the better as games compete for awareness and ultimately that involves huge price drops. But we are still at the mercy of the provider. @Donald_M your argument makes a lot of sense, but I do think you are underestimating sales figures for popular Indy games on the ps - would an Indy place a game on psn or xbox live just for marketing? Maybe but I doubt it. There's been times when I have bought a game for more on console as its just easier and on the storefront - but that's a personal preference as I don't have my PC connected to my TV.
@Radbot42 Its in the image, bottom right is shovel knight that's the only one that's difficult to make out. If you cant see the picture due to your phone or iPad or something then post back and I will write the list for you.
@adf86 Yep, that's how it works alright. But these events are curated by Sony. They contact the devs and say "we're having such and such a sale, here are the details. Want in?" And the studios either agree or they don't. So understand that Sony is responsible for this promotion.
As for the devs needing to get paid, but there are upsides to selling at a lower price. That's why the Humble Bundles are still going. It's great exposure, increases market saturation, brand recognition, and increases the user base of potential DLC purchases. The people who enjoyed the game are now more likely to be interested in the sequel and/or other games from the same studio and will voice that opinion to their friends and in online discussions.
So don't tell me that 20% off would shutter these studios.
language -Tasuki-
We still use the term indie..but Simple fact is these games are getting further away from being indie..bigger teams and budgets(barring the odd few exceptions and im referring to consoles..as i guess pc still has a true indie scene) I think it's just how things are and something we will have to get used to,I personally don't mind upwards of £9.99 for "indie" titles..rogue legacy is one of my fave ps4 games, I bought on release day and it's something I play literally everyday(except for the past few months coz I'm in Philippines..got one hell of a back log when I go back to UK next!).. .lol i used to love being part of the public domain scene on the amiga ..good times!
Hotline Miami 2 should be great. Don't really care about anything else.
@glassmusic I'm not saying that heavy discounts will close studios, I'm saying that people need to be reasonable when games are launched they shouldn't expect them to have a significant discount straight away. It's also worth bearing in mind that most of these titles are crossbuy as well.
1p off for every £30 spent is what the UK deal will be. Extra penny if on PS+. Compared to the American sales the European ones really are abysmal.
There is a few of them games I was going to buy anyway, but nice to know.
I do not buy any game unless I can get it for 50% off or more.
I will buy games on PSN when the price is right, but most of my games comes from Amazon Warehouse Deals.
I own PS3, PS2, PSP, PS TV, Wii, WIi U, DSI XL, 3DS XL and a XBOX 360. I own hundreds and hundreds of games, and telling me you will give me 10% off just makes me laugh.
@glassmusic Actually a lot of developers said that they made more money on Steam sales at 50% instead of the full 100% on release date (well, you could argue that the exta visibility does help, but still)
@benrawr and where do you plan to buy these physical copies for games that have never had a physical retail release?
@Faruko they already announced that it was not going to be.
I am looking forward to Axiom Verge, but depending on price (down the road) I might pick up a couple more like shovel knight and bastion.
@Boerewors I agree in part, but not because its Indie vs AAA. I would gladly buy, say, Axiom Verge for $60 retail, but $20 for a digital copy, is pushing it.
@Boerewors - Really nice post, I'd like it or + it or something if I could.
While I agree w/ the overall feeling here that 10% off ain't much, I think this sale is more about Sony promoting a steady stream of new indie games than anything else. Sure you only save 10%, but Sony has you looking into 8 different games over the next 8 weeks, some of which you wouldn't have looked at otherwise. It's called marketing, and I think this is a very good promotion from Sony.
PS4 has games, PS4 has PS+, PS+ has discounts. Doesn't really help the consumers wallet out any, but it's not really supposed to, it's all about the marketing.
@themcnoisy @Donald_M You guys are comparing markets across system, im saying about the digital market, i know Sony, Nintendo, Steam, etc... are all on competition with each other BUT
On the digital service, theres no competition on the Console ecosystem (ok we can count on digital codes or cards but they are pretty much a non factor), theres only one place you can buy games, on the digital side of PC gaming you have Steam, GOG, Greenmangaming, Amazon, etc... literally dozens of markets
