American Football is fine and dandy, but surely we can all agree that it would be orders of magnitude more exciting if it were played by bloodthirsty fantasy villains. Luckily, this oddly specific desire will soon be fulfilled, as Blood Bowl 2 – the second entry in the sporting sim franchise – will be hitting the PlayStation 4 next year.
Modelled after Games Workshop's violent American Football-themed Warhammer spin-off board game, the title uses turn-based strategy to anchor its bizarre take on the popular sport. Unfortunately, the goal-'em-up's first proper trailer is mostly useless, but we've embedded it below anyway.
What do you make of Blood Bowl 2? Are you excited to see a more gruesome take on America's second favourite pastime? Kick off in the comments section below.

...oh dear (sigh)
What's America's first favourite pastime?
@get2sammyb Baseball, I think. I hope......
Dear gaming gods (or creators) Please just bring back speedball 2.
@k_andersen As a non-american myself, that was my impression too.
Feel so bad for those kids who buy this on boxart alone. I would have been all over a game like this when I was 12.
Too bad it's turn based, cause I actually think there is a market for games like these. Where are NFL blitz and NBA Jam? Where is Mario Strikers? Those games are quite simple to make, but offer tons of fun. Games like FIFA or NBA2k bore the crap out of me these days, I just want some smooth and simple action. Best " sportsgame" of this year so far is Mario Golf imo; it's easy to pick up, but can give you hours worth of old fashioned fun.
We still play games like Blitz, Mario Soccer, Mario Tennis, NBA Jam and such in this house, it just never gets old. I don't want to become an engineer before I can enjoy a sportsgame!
You said it, useless trailer. When I think of blood and US Football I always think of Pigskin. My bro played the hell out of it on arcades long ago.
I'm looking forward to this game I might buy it, a turn based football game sounds kinda cool, I played the board game it's based on a good few years ago when I was at school, so I might be a tad biased.
I recall the boardgame warhammer 40k version, was totally bemused. This though looks like it might be fun, let's wait and see how it turns out.

That's funny. The NFL passed the MLB in popularity years ago.
Americas favorite pastime is baseball, but as Splat said, the NFL passed it up in popularity a very long time ago. Baseball is still considered America's favorite pastime though because the season is so long and mostly in the spring/summer months.
