Sketchcross PS Vita

Innovation is overrated. Alright, maybe that’s a bit too much – but, look, sometimes there’s comfort to be found in things that are familiar. It’s the reason that associate editor Robert Ramsey rarely eats anything other than Margherita pizza, for example – and also why this author has been wearing the same tracksuit trousers for the past, er, ten years. They’ve been washed.

Sketchcross, a new PlayStation Vita puzzler from Spiky Fish Games, seems to understand this idea, as it’s bringing a familiar gameplay concept to Sony’s handheld system. Based on the “nonogram ruleset” – the indie studio’s polite way of saying Picross – the title will find you solving logic puzzles to create pretty pictures. There’ll be 50 conundrums at launch, with more to follow later.

Additionally, there’ll be leaderboards designed to pit your powers of deduction against the rest of the world, as well as a Frenzy mode, which will leave you with very little time to scratch your head. Sound cool? The game’s due out early next year exclusively on the Vita. Are you in or are you out? Scribble out a square in the comments section below.
