Just when you thought that Assassin's Creed's overarching narrative couldn't possibly get any more convoluted, it looks like Assassin's Creed Unity is going to dabble in a bit of time travel. Sigh.
We'll admit that the concept does seem quite cool — at least in trailer form — but it just seems like something that the franchise really doesn't need. This particular author's hatred for the franchise's modern day components is well documented, and when you start throwing the Animus' subject into time anomalies, you've got to start asking: how far is too far?
Take a look at the video itself, and tell us how you feel about the technical jargon of the series in the comments section below.

That screenshot screams "sneak past the searchlights". Revolutionary gameplay.
Ubisoft's got to keep all 3,456 employees working on this busy. May as well throw in a bit of time travel.
So Japan would seem to boring to do but a Modern Day setting filled with automatic guns and jeeps and other BS is completely fresh and original.
Okay.
@SuperSilverback : well said sir !
@eliotgballade Spiritual successor to The Saboteur, though. Wonder if Sean will make a cameo.
Oh dear... With the modern day sections you lose all the immersion you had with the historical setting. Why on earth Ubi feel they have to add these pointless parts is beyond me and now they seem to be taking it to the next level!
No doubt the final boss in Unity is set on the moon, fighting robots with laser guns?! Wouldn't be surprised at this rate...
@SuperSilverback +1
I hated the modern day out of the Animus sections of the games...they ripped you out of the narrative and Desmond was a dull whiny brat...it always seemed like they came up with the idea of Animus but never knew what to do with it. Having said that, I actually really liked the modern day sections of Black Flag. I'll wait to see how Unity turns out before I commit...Brotherhood, Revelations and AC3 left me ambivalent towards the franchise.
please watch the language -Tasuki-
I wonder if Aiden Pearce (watch dogs) will show up?
if they are doing time travel the they might as we'll throw other games in too
ohh maybe Rayman will show up as well
@FullbringIchigo Oh Aiden is soooo a modern day assassin waiting to be unveiled... I'd actually not hate the contemporary sections of AC if they saved a real purpose beyond exposition and gave real combat/stealth missions and content....I'd welcome being out of the Animus being like watchdogs lol.
It's not exactly a massive departure from the series premise anyway, or really at all.
I actually like this change, it gives it a bit of a twist. Plus it looks like a WWII era deal, which would be pretty awesome to say the least.
CUT! Stop everything. That is all wrong. You're fired Ubisoft.. LAZER BEAMS? From the sky? Science fiction or not, where did practicality go? (COME..ON! it's all good when you're running away.)
You say that like it is a bad thing?!
Yawn
Shooty shooty bit looked boring, give us an AC set in Victorian London.
If you guys had a shark tank at your offices, would you invite me to jump over it?
I've really been wanting to get into this series, I really do. I played AC1 for a few hours and enjoyed it, but never finished it since I never owned it. But the silly stuff like this fits in as much as Mad Max would in a Disney show.
Not only does it feel unnecessary to me, but it also makes Assassin's Creed look like the rest of the gritty modern day games that are everywhere nowadays.
I love everything time-warping and time-travel.
I hate Assasins Creed though.
Lets see who wins this for me...
The present day setting did have a purpose to continue the story. I actually like it. Bleeding effect allowing Desmond to pick up ezios moves. I wonder if in unity we will be an abstergo employee and I think the future twist will be interesting otherwise it will be same old stuff
I honestly can't wait to see how an Assassin can take on machine guns. An Assassins in the moder era of World War II...I will never get tired of f***ing take out Nazi's!
So apparently this is supposed to be in World War II.....
Interesting at least, but still doesn't soften the blow, or seem like a fresh idea.
Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
@get2sammyb : would be awesome if he did ! (me names sean!)
@Not-Another-Ad yeah in the 1880s so you could have a mission where you track jack the ripper he could be a templar and all his victims could be members of the assassin order or informants for them, that would be epic
single handedly ruined all my interest in the series.
