This may no longer be a figment of your imagination

Those of you that are veterans in the PlayStation Nation may be struggling to believe that Final Fantasy XV is an actual game, but this tech demo by Square Enix proves that the publisher at least has a functional prototype finished after eight long years of work. The clip – which can be found approximately 22 minutes into the embedded video – shows an arena battle with a Behemoth and a bunch of goblins, as well as the weather and time of day technology that the developer has built.

Perhaps the most exciting thing, however, is that it’s all played with a DualShock 4, meaning that the studio has the basis of an actual game these days. It looks great, too – rain dries naturally as time passes by, and the areas underneath objects don’t get wet when it’s pouring down. The most impressive thing, though: Noctis and crew manage to maintain that salon look – even when they’re getting absolutely drenched. We must buy some of their hair gel for ourselves.
