Don't you just love it when the PlayStation Network is inexplicably taken offline for around the fourth time in two weeks? Yeah, so do we. Not only are you unable to jump into your favourite multiplayer game after a long day at work or school, but you have to read our rants about it, too.
Unfortunately, the time has come yet again when we have no choice but to tell you that, yes, the PSN is down once more — at least, for some of us. At the time of writing, we can't log in on any console, but Sony has been assuring gamers that it's working on fixing the problem. But the real question is: what's the cause of the issue in the first place?
Well, as daft as it seems, the Japanese giant reckons that the PS4 launch of Minecraft is to blame. Posting on its official support page, the firm notes that "the PlayStation Network is currently experiencing high volume and users may experience issues when connecting to the service," and adds on Twitter that "PSN is currently experiencing high volume of users downloading Minecraft."
Now, we realise that no service can be perfect, but with so many recent outages, it's all starting to look a bit ridiculous for the company. After all, there's a real sense of dread regarding the launch of sci-fi shooter Destiny next week, with users questioning whether or not the PSN will be able to handle the inevitable stress.
What do you make of this? Are you utterly sick, or are you using the downtime as an excuse to do other things with your free time? Unleash your rage in the comments section below.

It might be very well due to the Europe release of Minecraft. I am in North America and PSN is working just fine for me.
@Tasuki Could be — reports are all over the place, and it's hard to work out who can and can't get online.
Is anyone else having problems or is it working just fine?
I can't log on to PSN, and not so for the past hour or so. I'm occasionally checking back to see if it is back up though. No luck thus far. I am in North America as well
I can log in ok and everything seems like it's up and working.
@ShogunRok: Well I live in California to be exact and I just logged on to my PS4, went and browsed the store and everything worked fine for me.
Right after my last post I logged on perfectly fine and Minecraft seems to be downloading perfectly fine, maybe the server traffic slowed down
Stop worrying so much. It'll get sorted, but this stuff always happens. Servers aren't entirely reliable and like everything that uses the internet, is prone to failing.
There will almost certainly be issues when Destiny launches but it won't be the end of the world.
An a side note - "Groundhog Day" is one of my top 3 films of all time
Predicting another downtime next week when Destiny launches. You heard it first from me, guys!
Surely will have a little trouble come Destiny launch, but has anyone thought that maybe the reason for so much maintenance lately has to do with the fact Destiny is about to launch and they are beefing up? That or correcting security issues?
Reports are coming in that it is due to MInecraft being released in Europe today.
PS3, PS Vita and the Web store (when not clicking on Minecraft) are all fine for me!
This is so annoying!! I have had a hectic day and was ready for a good online game tonight with friends to only find out that I couldn't log on until 9pm leaving me an hours play as I have to be up at 5am
@Sadodi actually i said that a week or two ago
i decided to get destiny on the Xone anyone wanna guess why
@Crimson_Ridley I don't mean to be rude but people pay a monthly fee to play online with friends and people like myself who work all day to come home walk my dogs for hour then just want to sit down and relax online with friends but can't! It's frustrating me and a couple of friends have moved over from MS and they never really have this problem!! Sony really do need to work on this! But I do agree come next week when we all trying to run Destiny the same problem will happen again! But it's worse for me as I've booked the Thursday and Friday off work to play with some friends!!
This is getting ridiculous. But to be fair, I think the same thing may happen tomorrow for xb1 when minecraft launches, and again for both services when Destiny launches. Its sad but very likely.
@Midzark I pay for PSN and work a full-time job, and I know service down-time is frustrating, but I'm not ignorant to the fact that this is a part of online connectivity. The DDoS attack was not Sony's fault either, and no matter how secure a service may be, someone will send enough data to take it down. Yet, people blame them for it and then become armchair generals telling them what they should do.
They know the score, and regardless of what other's believe I'm sure you'll be able to get many hours in on Destiny, even if there are a few hiccups.
BTW, I'm an Xbox 360 owner as well, so I must disagree with your comment. Xbox LIVE has had MANY issues in the past. Countless times have we had to spend time offline.
Oh gods not a PSN outage again.....another b*tch fest about paying for a service that can't be used and Xbox not having these issues and blah blah blah.....sigh. I think I'll just stay away from forums when Destiny launches.
Stuff like this is why I cancelled my Destiny pre-order and will not be getting it for any console. The internet goes down and you're left with a $60 coaster. It'll be a great game, but not worth the trouble.
@Crimson_Ridley I've always owned both PlayStation and XBOX and I've never had half of the problems with the XB360 network downtime like we have with PSN.
They say its because of Minecraft but I doubt thats true. We were all playing the Destiny Alpha, Beta and PSN seemed ok then. There were millions of people playing.
@Gamer83 Wll in that case there is no point in playing online games at all.
Destiny will be fine just like the Alpha and Beta was and just like all the other online games.
Its just unfortunate its happened so closely but im sure its giving Sony a kick up the arse so they can make sure things run better.
Anyway out of all the time we play online its only been down for a fraction of that time.
@WARDIE
I don't game that much online anyway so that also factored into my decision. When I buy a game I want to be able to play it when i want to play it, that's why I think even for multiplayer, online focused games such as shooters or sports there should be offline campaigns or modes. After Destiny has been on the market for a few months, if it looks like it's not crashing any servers I may spring for the Xbox One version since XBL has never given me the trouble PSN does, but neither service is perfect and I'm not keen on online-only games to begin with. For those who do get it, I hope there's no issues.
@Gamer83 Yeah I do kind of wish Destiny had an offline mode too.
@WARDIE I think minecraft is a tad more popular than the destiny alpha/beta.
@Sadodi No we didn't. The article states: "After all, there's a real sense of dread regarding the launch of sci-fi shooter Destiny next week, with users questioning whether or not the PSN will be able to handle the inevitable stress." But you are right though. PSN will have issues with Destiny launch.
I'm working most of Tuesday so as long as it's all good by 9pm I won't be here adding to the inevitably long thread, I stopped checking but that ddos post had like 300+ replies
I just moved to another house yesterday and found allmost all servers on battefield were empty. I thought it was because of my new internet, so i'm actually glad about this news
From reading around the internet I got the feeling the servers for New Gen consoles are worse than last gen ones for some reason and both PSN and xbox live are about similar (not counting 'terrorist' DDos like attacks that have more to do with justice to sort it out)
Would be interesting for PushSquare and PureXbox to do a serious survey on the new gen online services (instead of reading people biased opinions here and there)
Nah, Sony is just building their empire. PSN will get better and better. Downtime always sucks, but with that down time they are improvement the network.
