Radio surgery

Between the likes of Octodad: Dadliest Catch and Sportsfriends, there have been no shortage of zany indie titles deployed on the PlayStation 4 since its launch last year. However, platform holder Sony is not planning to put a stop to the silliness anytime soon, as it’s announced that Bossa Studios is bringing its bizarre surgery simulator, er, Surgeon Simulator to the next-gen super machine later this year.

For those unfamiliar with the original PC release, the action plays out from a first-person perspective, whereby you must manoeuvre an intentionally obtuse hand in order to pick up a variety of implements that will help you to save your patient’s life – or, er, not. Replacing important organs with radios and pencils is the real order of the day here, as you hammer away at your subject's rib cage and hand him his heart in a doggy bag.

The British-based developer behind the release has apparently worked hard in order to nail the controls on the DualShock 4. Finger movement has now been mapped to the shoulder buttons, while the peripheral’s motion sensors have been employed for hand rotation. Sadly, there’s no word on PlayStation Move support just yet, but seeing as the motion controller seems like the ideal input option for this game, we’ve got our fingers crossed that we’ll be performing triple heart bypass surgery with a glowing rod soon.
