See you on the other side

We’re in that weird spot before E3 where developers are eager to tease their upcoming products, but don’t want to say or show too much. Take this tweet from PlanetSide 2 executive producer Clint Worley, which includes the first ever off-screen image of Sony Online Entertainment’s free-to-play first-person shooter running on the PlayStation 4. There’s not much to go on, but it sure looks swell.

“The new build is about to drop, so I grabbed a picture before the install,” the employee explained. “DualShock 4 rumble will add a ton to the gameplay.” This will presumably be the version on display at the abovementioned convention in Los Angeles next month, which attendees will actually be able to play. According to the studio, the conversion’s already running in 1080p at a “steady” framerate.

This is just one of many MMO ports in production at the Sony subsidiary, with zombie shooter H1Z1 and series reboot EverQuest Next also on the way. The studio has already found massive success on its parent company’s home consoles, with superhero sandbox DC Universe Online proving incredibly popular on both the PS3 and PS4.
