While we certainly consider ourselves to be huge Sony fans – we played Hannah Montana: The Movie just to add another Platinum Trophy to our already bulging cabinet – we certainly wouldn't relish the idea of camping out for two nights in a row just to be the first person to get their hands on the Japanese giant's shiny new machine. It turns out that Joey Chiu, the lucky fan who nabbed the first PlayStation 4, didn't either. He turned up to the official launch event venue on 13th November with the sole intention of giving the new console a test before it went public, but was shocked to learn that he was the first person to arrive. Naturally, he took his rightful place at the head of the queue.
But he faced a serious dilemma – to retain his spot in line would mean camping out for two freezing November nights and also skipping college classes the next day. The ever benevolent Sony swooped in to save the day, though, promising to save Chiu's coveted position. “Sony was unbelievably gracious in letting me head home for the night and keeping my spot in line," the devotee said. "I am eternally grateful for this.” #4ThePlayers, indeed.
Chiu resumed his place in line the following Thursday night, then waited patiently for the big moment. Finally, with a huge grin and a terrible Antonio Banderas impersonation, he claimed his signed console and went down in the history books. Well, our history books at any rate. Triforce Johnson spent 2 weeks on line for the first Wii U, so its not that amussing.
@Epic Haha, these people are insane.
People with no life is what it is!
That is crazy! I will be going to get mine at about 11.30pm. This is mainly due to if I got there any earlier I would have to wait out side in the cold. (Local game is in a shaopping centre)
They say it takes all sorts, and good luck to him. He got some special treatment and a signed console, and fifteen minutes of internet fame; that's all great. Genuinely.
But personally, I'd rather pre-order online and have it delivered to me. Especially as they tend to launch these things in the winter months, and it gets bloody freezing.
The only time I ever queued was for PS2, and even then it was only from 7am on the day, outside my local Game. I'd pre-ordered and was 5th in line, and froze my butt off until they opened at 9am.
That's just nuts. Honestly I would never do that for one thing I hate waiting, second I dont think my job of family would take to kindly to me camping out for days. Of course if I knew for sure that Sony would hold my spot to go home and work then maybe I might, but how often does that happen?
That's pretty cool of sony to save his place. Very responsible of them to make sure he gets to class and gets some sleep instead of making him freeze to show everyone how dedicated their fans are.
P.s. Jack Tretton is the man. Just sayin', he definitely gives off the Bill Shatner swagger.
Must be nice having that attitude towards his college education when there are so many people out there that would do anything to have the means to go to college or get any sort of education!
@fridida priorities, right?
