The citizens of Los Santos know a thing or two about losing their rides – after all, there’s a good chance that you’ve spent the past week or so stealing other people’s cars. Now you could be about to get a taste of your own medicine, as Grand Theft Auto V has a glitch that’s prompting some parked vehicles to disappear or lose their pimpin’ upgrades from the safe houses in which they're stored.
“We have received some reports about problems with cars and garages, particularly after upgrading and then completing a mission, and are looking into this now,” said Rockstar Games on its website. “Unfortunately, we don't currently have a workaround to recover a car if it’s missing.” We’re pretty sure that’s what the Los Santos police department said, too.
While the developer is still investigating the issue – and presumably hurriedly putting together a patch – it thinks that the glitch may occur when you’re driving another character’s personal vehicle. "In the meantime, please try to avoid parking a car in a garage, driving one already in a garage, or getting in a default vehicle, when playing as a character other than the one with your upgrades."
The lengths that one must go to keep hold of their wheels...

What is up with all these major games having these glitches?
Who needs a garage when you can just steal one on your way out?
I got hit by this after I pimped out Trevor and franklins rides on the Ifruit app on my phone. The newly customised 4x4 turned up in the game until I switched to franklin. When I switched back to everyone's favourite homicidal meth dealer the car was back to its old self. Yesterday I used Ifruit from the iPad and got charged for the work I'd done on Trevor and franklins cars for a 2nd time and Trevor's customised vehicle reappeared....at double the price. Grand theft Application.
@Jaz007 Grand Theft Auto V, considering the scale, is actually pretty impressively bug-free. They did an amazing job. This is still annoying, though, so hopefully it gets fixed sharpish.
I haven't lost any cars but I did lose the upgrades I did to Trevor's truck. It's not the end of the world but did kinda suck.
Speaking of cars this is my favorite in the game.
Hopefully they use some of the billion dollars they made to squash these bugs.
@get2sammyb bugs are always annoying (even real ones) and its only been out for a week. Pokémon Red/Blue had a huge glitch. At least they can maybe patch it. And now that I'm like 25% thru the game, I'm experiencing crazy effing texture pops. I drove into a completely grey featureless intersection and spun out from the non-existent pavement's non-existent traction. Didn't expect mechanics to pop too. But they'll fix it... Or they won't lol
I haven't ran into that problem yet but I have GTA V on the 360. Anyone know if that bug is in that version as well?
@Splat: OMG I love the car as well. I always grab one when I see it driving around.
I wouldn't mind losing my car in GTA 5 right now, since it would mean I had it and didn't have to wait until TNT figure out, how to read a freaking Postal code
@Savino Cabs are the way forward!
I wondered where my lambo went.
@LDXD Yep if you swim out far enough you get eaten by one.
@Splat
I was using that one today.
I haven't ran into this bug but my car has been impounded, R* has an excellent QA team.
@Longshot28:
@LDXD:
I believe there is an achievement for getting eaten by the shark.
