We don’t know why Chart-Track even bothers to hire statisticians to uncover the annual best selling game in the UK. Everyone knows it’s going to be Call of Duty or FIFA anyway, so what’s the point? We suppose it gives us something to pad out an otherwise slow Saturday afternoon – seriously, the alternative to this story was a piece about Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3. We digress.
Despite launching late in the year, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was the UK's best selling game of 2012. It managed to beat out FIFA 13, which finished in second, as well as Assassin’s Creed III, Hitman: Absolution, and Far Cry 3. Impressively, last year’s FIFA 12 climbed into eighth, while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 landed in 18th. Sleeping Dogs rounded out the list in 20th.
We’ve embedded the full rundown below. Which titles did you purchase in 2012? Let us know in the comments section.

I like seeing Sleeping Dogs on the list. I just wish it was a little higher. I really feel alot of people are missing out on a great game.
Far Cry 3 did very well considering it only had 1 months sales.
Skyrim also sold very well making the top 10 in its second year.
Sleeping Dogs deserved to do much better but the fact it's on the list is good, U.S. sales weren't great but hopefully combined with the European sales it did well enough to convince SE to let United Front do a sequel.
@Gamer83 I definitely think there'll be a sequel on next-generation consoles. The game got really good word of mouth, and there's plenty of room for growth. This is definitely going to be a big franchise in the future in Square Enix handle it properly.

Well, all the articles I've read, it seems like the higher ups were satisfied enough with the performance of the game and more than pleased with the quality so I guess that's a good sign. No doubt there's tons of potential here. I'll be interested to see what direction they go with it. It'd probably have to stay in Hong Kong but the choice of main character may be tough. I know a lot of people who like Wei but feel as though his story is complete and they're pleased with how it was wrapped up. I'd actually like to see him star in the second game though, he's a likeable character and at least one more game with him could work, SE just has to make sure if it goes that route that it can get Will Yun Lee back on board, he did a fantastic job.
