If you managed to bite your lip through all of the hype surrounding Telltale’s ridiculously popular episodic The Walking Dead series on PlayStation 3 – well done, you’ll be able to grab the first two episodes for free as part of next month’s PlayStation Plus update.
Both episodes one and two will be available at no extra cost from 7th August. They’ll be joined by 20% discounts on PSN Play promoted titles, The Expendables 2 and Sound Shapes.
As always, further discounts are pledged for later in the month – with “more additions to your Instant Game Collection and additional awesome sauce” on the way. It’s worth adding that this information only applies to North America at the moment, with European details expected in the coming days.
We suspect those of you that haven’t bought The Walking Dead yet will be happy with this announcement, while the rest of you casually grumble into your keyboards. Are we correct?

hah, you're exactly right. People like me that didn't buy it yet will be very happy. I can't believe they did this so soon after release, and after already giving a PS+ discount on it. Lots of folks will be disappointed with that. But I'm happy!
@Squiggle55 It's a shrewd move from Telltalle — hook people into the story, and make them want to buy the remaining three episodes.
@get2sammyb exactly what I was thinking
I all ready have the season pass and have really enjoyed the series so far.
I agree with Sammy I think they are going to get alot of people hooked with EP 1 and 2 and leave them wanting more.
The season pass was only $20 and you get all 5 episodes and a Walking Dead theme.
Since each episode is $5 a piece the season pass is the best way to go for those that don't have PS+.
You are incorrect Sammy. I'm not interested in the Walking Dead games so I am neither happy nor am I grumbling. I am in fact sighing that I am once again disappointed by the PS+ updated this month.
I'm not a fan of Telltale's games, but I guess I'll give them a try, after I finally decide to give the free Back the Future series a try, which I still have yet to do.
@Slapshot This is definitely a different beast — I'd play The Walking Dead first.
My PS+ ends in the middle of August so this is good timing considering I was thinking about picking up The Walking Dead anyway.
Awesome news! I'm just now getting into the TV series, and really enjoyed the demo. I'm super excited about this.
And not even a week ago I bought the 'season pass' for $20. Oh well, the games are definitely worth the price. This is a steal for Plus members who were on the fence though. Deals like this are why Sony is so far ahead of the other two as far as I'm concerned.
Great news! Telltale games usually go on sale so that is why I decided to hold off on buying the entire season. I really enjoyed the demo so I can't wait to get this. PlayStation Plus is really sweet!
Do you need a credit card to sign up for PS+? I know you can buy a PSN card but do you still need a credit card to subscribe?
I got Heavy Rain and it came with a free trail to PS+ but it wouldn't let me use it with out a credit card.
I didn't give any credit card info when I signed up for it with the 3-month card I bought.
@Splat I'm pretty sure you don't have to use a card, no. You should be able to just purchase PSN credit and subscribe that way. Remember to turn auto-renewal off, though.
Woo! Being frugal pays off. I played the demo many weeks ago and was "meh" about it, now with this, I may go ahead and get the first two episodes. I can fight the urge to get hooked until they're all released on PSN .
@get2sammyb Ah! I'll give a go then.
Yesss! This made my day! I recently finished up Back to the Future and almost bought The Walking Dead. Glad I waited.
@Slapshot Make sure to give Back to the Future a try if you're a fan of the movies. I'm not the biggest fan of point and click games but I really enjoyed it.
