Parappa The Rapper Could Return On PlayStation Vita.

But series creator Masaya Matsuura has told Joystiq that the hipster puppy could return on the PlayStation Vita.

"We always think about the possibility of remaking or rebuilding or making sequels," he told the website at TGS.

Matsuura continued that he prefers making rhythm games on handhelds because the built-in screen reduces the risk of latency between the controller inputs and visual feedback. Therefore, the PlayStation Vita represents a great opportunity for the franchise to return.

But platform issues aren't the only thing holding the series back. NanaOn-Sha director of development told Joystiq that business issues are also a concern. "How people pay for games has changed compared to 15 years ago. We're not sure that people would be willing to pay $50 for something with 5, 6 stages."

So NanaOn-Sha is looking into new opportunities and business models for Parappa. "We feel now that there's so many different ways of purchasing games and evaluating games that maybe there'll be one that matches Parappa well," Tanner added.

This isn't the first time the Parappa series has met resistance. According to Matsuura, Sony didn't even consider the series a game at first.

"They sold Parappa as not a game, just an interactive something," he said. "Their conservative knowledge about games was Mario, SEGA something, Street Fighter — they couldn't accept Parappa as a game."

Of course, when it became a hit, Sony changed its mind. "Finally, the audience and market decided Parappa was a game, not Sony."

What we'd give for some Parappa The Rapper right now...
