Punch That Pad Like You Mean It, Yo.

We've played some UFC games. We have about as much interest in the "sport" as we do professional Starcraft. But somehow, UFC Personal Trainer appeals to us. Regular readers will know we have a fairly long standing relationship with these new crop of fitness games. Both EA Sports Active 2 and The Fight spend a lot of time in our PlayStation 3, and we suspect UFC Personal Trainer is going to join them.

Here's the thing: we find the gym a bit bleurgh. It's not that we're self-aware video game playing stereotypes, it just the clientele you find in fitness establishments. You've met gym goers before — tossing about their membership card like it's an "Ultimate Being" certificate. We'd rather sprint around the block to get fit than hop on an indoor treadmill. The world is your gym folks, never forget.

Sometimes the real world rains though, and you need to do a workout indoors. That's where games like UFC Personal Trainer come in handy. Mainly because they bring some degree of interactivity, escapism and fun. Let's not pretend — exercise is boring. Anything you can do to liven it up is welcome in our book. And no, that doesn't mean staring at a junkies tight shorts down the local gym.

So yes, we're quite looking forward to the PlayStation Move enabled UFC Personal Trainer. Hopefully it takes some of our work from The Fight and helps us to improve our technique. Since playing The Fight our punch speed and strength has undoubtedly increased, but we're still pretty flappy when it comes to actually throwing punches.

The game's out in June.
