Mr. Assassin's Creed, Patrice Desilets, Is Set To Head Up THQ New Montreal Studio.

The publisher's just announced a new studio set to open in Montreal next year, and it's employed ex-Assassin's Creed boss (and all around Canadian video game wizard) Patrice Desilets to head the studio.

Desilets was a key figure in Ubisoft's catalogue before he left earlier this year. He was responsible for Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time, and Assassin's Creed. He'll be in charge of hiring a new team for THQ's Montreal studio, with a goal of opening in the Summer.

THQ's said that the new studio will be in charge of new IP.

“The best way we can deliver fresh, high-quality gaming experiences is by working with the best talent. THQ is delighted to have the opportunity to make a brilliant addition to our team next year with Patrice Désilets,” said THQ core boss Danny Bilson.

“We expect calendar 2011 to be a watershed year for THQ, and adding developers like Patrice helps ensure our focus on new IP and great games charted by leading industry artists.”

While it doesn't sound much, this is a big coup for THQ. Patrice Desilets is a recognisable name with an outstanding track-record, and the fact that they're willing to let him build a new studio with the intent of creating new IP is crazy. Here's hoping this all pays off for THQ, because they are definitely making the right noises at the moment.
