Bobby Kotick Ain't Losing Any Sleep Over Call Of Duty: Black Ops.

k.a.the most hated man in the video game industry) has said that the upcoming Call Of Duty: Black Ops will be getting “the biggest investment” the company has ever made in a game launch. Apparently, the game's pre-order sales alone put it up with Modern Warfare 2.

“This across the board, the biggest investment that we’ve ever made in a launch of a title,” said Kotick Activision's financial conference last night.

“And I think when audiences see the product, they’ll see why we’re doing it this way. But the market opportunity is bigger than it’s ever been. The installed base of hardware is bigger than it’s ever been.”

Blizzard's boss Mike Morhaime was aboard the hype train too.

“I think one of the things I’d add also that’s important, we have gotten an incredible amount of benefit from this very, very large installed base of players and the way people are reacting to the downloadable content,” he said.

“And a lot of that learning has now been incorporated into what you’ll see in a lot of the functionality of Black Ops.

“And partly why we’re so enthusiastic about our prospects for the back half of this year, but Black Ops is turning out to be one of the best products that we’ve ever created.”

We have to admit, Call Of Duty: Black Ops does look really good. Some of the segments we've seen have been stunning to watch, particularly the helicopter section shown off at E3. We've no doubt about the game's selling power either. We're just getting a bit bored of this juggernaut mentality. It's nice to see Sony put their big titles up against Call Of Duty, and we'd love to see other publishers do the same. Put some choice out there instead of allowing Call Of Duty to eat up all the holiday sales.

Again, we think Black Ops is going to be a terrific game, but if no-one stands up to it, then the juggernaut's going to keep rolling year after year.
